Corbin Seat & Bag Review

I know I've already talked about these quite a bit, but I wanted to make a couple of important notes and get some suggestions. First, a couple of important "problems" with the Corbin setup:

Cons:
1. Corbin bags completely block access to the seat release. It's not an issue for me since I can just keep my tools in the bag and the battery is accessed elsewhere, but it was unexpected. If you have a deep 14mm socket, you can remove the left bag in 1-2 min.
2. You must take the seat off to secure/release the backrest. There is a set screw that goes through the shaft of the backrest on the underside of the seat. I put a thin layer of electrical tape around the backrest shaft and that secures it enough for me. I don't use the set screw, but I can't believe Corbin didn't use some sort of quick release.
3. The seat is very slick. I slide around on my seat a lot more than I'd like. It's only a real problem during hard launches and when riding a passenger (who will slide into you every time you brake). I think the problem is with the textured leathers only (graphite, snakeskin, alligator, etc). I've found a couple of fixes, but I'm still looking for something better. A thin layer of honey on the seat actually worked the best so far. Some sprayable pine tar also works, but when it gets cold it doesn't stick as well. It will also pull lint off of jeans, etc, so may be a cleaning issue.
4. If bags are not installed just right they will wear holes in the paint. The blinkers can also wear holes in the paint on the bags. If you mount them just far enough forward so the blinkers don't rub, you should be ok.
5. You will have to cut your key to access the stock helmet holder with the Corbin bags on. Just cut one side of the rubber off of the key and everything is still functional.
6. Cost, $1599 for the bags, $399 for the seat, $230 for the backrest.
7. Bags will add some weight, I'm guessing 20 lbs. This weight high in the back makes the bike wheelie a bit easier.
8. Bags will add some drag, which will knock about 10mph off of your top speed, maybe 15mph.

Pros:
1. Bags are very spacious, sturdy, and seem to be watertight.
2. Seat is very comfortable. But burn practically vanished with this new seat.
3. The driver "backrest" does a good job of stopping you from sliding too far.
4. Bags are very stable at high speeds, 180mph+
5. Bags allow full access to passenger pegs.
6. The backrest is handy for keeping your passenger off the pavement when you get a little carried away, and the small oval backrest can accept the glove box attachment for extra storage.

Notes: The seat can be difficult to mount the first time, but once you get it latched, leave it for a day or so and the next time you will not have a problem.
Bags allow full access to passenger pegs.

Some of the issues, like the seat release, are unavoidable. Overall I'm very happy with the setup.

If someone has some good ideas to improve traction on the seat, preferably without damaging the seat, I'm all ears.

Well if you're racing it's a con. I guess most people won't drag race with their bags but I plan to. I just want to embarrass some Gixxer punks... if I can drive it that good anyway, maybe some stock Busa's too.
