Blue Discs?
After a few laps on the track where I had to brake from 260+ to 80 at the end of the straights, I noticed the brake lever going soft. Back in the pits, my discs had turned blue too.
Anyone else experienced this?

sounds like you heat treated them, i have never raced mine on a closed course, but i haven't heard of or had any brake failures, even the mags had great things to say about the brakes

Yup... the blueing was only superfical though, it went away on my next ride. No soft lever.
Try using the brakes less = higher cornering speeds :P and more grins :d

That heat could hurt your fluid. You might want to change it out to dot 5 if you do alot of track days.

I've noticed some issues with soft brakes also. I have a 1/4 mile strip by my house that I run for testing purposes. I go from 0-120 and back to 0 in 1/4 mile frequently. After about 3 passes in each direction I notice the brakes get soft. They still seem to have full stopping power but I have to pull the front brake in a lot more than usual before I start to feel it. After 10 min of normal riding they come back. I know it's a heat issue, but could someone explain this a little better? Is the fluid boiling, making air pockets? Rotors never get red or anything and I'm really not braking all that hard.

Well, maybe I'll try swapping to dot 5 or dot 5.1 brake fluid, see if it helps.
Oh yes, the clutch seems to go soft after several laps too. Goes back to normal after it cools down.
And you can only brake so little after a mile long straight. The rear ABS was kicking in all the way, so i didn't bother to touch the rear brakes, letting the front take all the abuse

You guys need steel brades brake lines with dot 5 fluid...
phytrax, you will still get brake fade from abusing your brakes like that !!!...All your going to accomplish by doing that is warped rotors costing you over $500...

I really don't feel like I'm abusing them that hard. I don't do more than 5 or 6 runs at a time normally, 3 in each direction. I usually make a slow U-turn at the end of each one also, to allow some cooling time. I feel like I'm applying less than hall of the braking that I could apply on most runs. I've heard of people taking the stock brakes to a racetrack, that's got to be a LOT more braking in 4 laps than what I'm doing. One guy got warped rotors, I remember, but it was attributed to use of race tires, not racing.

I take care to warm up my brakes carefully before giving them a good squeeze, I usually take two warmup laps to warmup the tyres and brakes first.
Oh yea, braided hoses are out of the question, I'm riding the ABS model, and there are like a zillion brake hoses running around the bike..
No complaints though, the bike is fantastic on the track.

phytrax, the 1/4 mile track we run here it gives us enough room to slow down without hardly applying the brakes. might want to try and save em and let the motor clow you down.
