New Years day ride..raced a vette
And got spanked .... The plan was to take a nice slow ride with the wife on the back and some buddies on their bikes out to Lake "O" get some food and then back. We were dressed accordingly. I had light jacket, helmet, light gloves, jeans and sneakers and the the wife had a helmet, no jacket, jeans and sneakers....... We're on the Beeline (straight as far as you can see) heading to the lake and at one of the main intersections a red vette pulls up with what I thought was a women driving. It look and sounded like a normal vette... thought to myself "just another Palm Beach rich bitch driving her old mans vette" didn't give it another thought. Light turns green and we take off at a normal pace..... next thing I see is the vette flying by at a pretty good clip. So the rich girl wants to play ?? I think I was in forth gear and wacked it and caught right up and passed "her". next thing I know the vettes right there and I can't shake it...I'm thinking I'll pull away any second now... But it doesn't happen. Speedo check shows it pegged and there is the only bridge in the road coming up fast and decided to play it safe and get out of it... good thing because there was a car in the slow lane on the other side and the vette had to make evasive manuevers. So off the vette goes into the distance. I start making excuses to myself... Wife on the back, I wasn't tucked in very good, I should have down shifted into 2nd then wacked it, the bikes still all stock etc.... Wait for my buddies to catch up and off we go. A couple of miles down the road the vettes sitting just off a side road. I go over to check it out to see if all was O.K. Pull up to find a younger guy driving (he had long hair) strapped into his 4 point harness and full roll cage. Said to him that I might have got him if my old lady wasn't on the back. He was cool about it and said "maybe not" and went on to explain that it had 860HP at the rear wheel and it's been 225MPH But I guess I got the last laugh.... he was sitting there because he lost oil pressure and though he might have hurt the motor. I made sure he had some help coming and we left. As we were leaving my wife asked if I saw his license plate "225MPH" .... NOW she tells me

860 HP - 225MPH..........$!
My math says a stock 14 on a roll beats a car w/ approx 1200 HP up to the bikes limiter...........so it's the rider.......and passenger :-)
The turbo is almost done here :-)

225mph is bs. 205 at best maybe with that power. add to the fact your riding with your wife on your back and he was just neck and neck (until you backed off) instead of leavin ya behind??
Fulltilts done plenty of vids with these cars and 900rwhp cars will lay waste to a piped busa after 150mph with a DAMN good rider clutchless shifting through the gears. I know the 14 is faster in stock form but not that fast, especially with a passenger. Either this kids 860 is more like 660 or he was breaking right as he was running you.
Either way damn good run, VERY WISE dicision to back off with your lady taking the risks with ya, and by all means yes, good kill. You went home, he needed help. Bikes rule, cars drool once again.

lil preview of the next "King of the streets" DVD. The Corvette is a 800hp stroker. Camera bike is a Nitrous ZX-12. turbo Busa is at 400hp. I don't think it even had to go past 215mph and you see it leaves both the vette and 12 behind and out of site with them at full gallop.

Vette didn't break, just oil leak around the dipstick area. said to be nothing serious

Damn I wish that was me! I would have politly flick the switch to arm the gas and sprayed the shit out of him. I would have beat him without it but just think it would have been pretty funny to just litterally kill him. That way he'll respect the beast next time and stay in his league. As for the turbo, I wouldn't mind lining up against a turbo 14 and see how the nitrous stands up against it! Just for shits and giggles!

Wife on Back??? You mean on the back of the bike? BTW I have a 650hp Linenfelter Vette (0-60 in 2.9 and 11.50 1/4). If her vette was stock you should have spanked it. Could have been a sleeper like mine; I don't have badges anywhere. Funny I have little boys in Sport Compacts ALWAYS wanting to race the vette and since I got the bike I have been challenged twice; both by Sport Compacts.

It's tough to take some of these new/fast cars even on a '14 guys... it sure as HELL doesn't take a 1200hp car to go faster than a ZX-14. Keep in mind that a car like a Vette has the HUGE advantage of lower drag coeficient, and that really comes in to play at 150+. Sure, you'll pull a fast Vette up to 125 or so, but don't be doing roll-ons at that speed, or you'll be dissapointed. You will probably still beat a stock Vette at those speeds, but not by much. And if he's got a cam, heads, and intake/exhaust work... that Vette will sure come close to matching your acceleration at 100-150 speeds. Now if you've got the balls to hang on till you hit your limiter, then you'll definitely take him... but that takes a pretty decent amount of open road.
I've played with my brother's '01 Z06 and '02 Z28 (both modded) enough to know that they are pretty darn stout. Haven't played with a new Z06 yet, but I'm sure it would be a very close fight above 100mph.

Stevefl....It's a bone stock ZX14. Fas550.... yes my wife was on the back of the bike so I was heavy and had dirty aerodynamics and wasn't really ready for a "race". I'm sure If I was able to do it again without the passenger I would have been out in front of him till I hit the speed limiter I was kind of suprised the wife wasn't pissed for going so fast with her on the back.... She couldn't stop talking about it and she was suprised on how smooth the bike was even at that speed

My wife starts pinching really hard after 130mph. She says it feels like she's being sucked off the back of the bike at that speed when we're laying down. She's excessively feminine type though, so who knows what the real story is.
Oh, and IMO the 225mph is legitimate. I've read articles of the Lingenfelter vets doing 220 mph and that's with less than 800hp if I'm not mistaken.

Do similar mods to the bike and they're going to need a trailer to pull a car that can beat you...
For streetable performance nothing touches a bike...Those fully built cars get smoked when they run against a bike with comparable modifications...

My wife (now Ex-Wife) would let me go over 60 or I'd get the silent treatment for a month. You are right zerMatt; I have raced many bikes and as soon as it gets to 100 (in about 6 or 7 seconds) the races changes rapidly. I raced a 600 or 750 around the Washington beltway one night and it was one of my most memorable/longest rides. At 2am he did not get the chance to take advantage of traffic so I just stayed on his ass all the time.

Ya, I let a mustang Cobra beat me in traffic near Houston, I'd rather live till the next race than weave between daydreaming cagers. He almost slammed into the back of someone changing lanes, then proceeded to ride next to them screaming and gesturing at them. As if the average driver is going to notice someone coming up behind them going 130mph while changing lanes.

My wife is good to about 155 - 160
Then her 636 hits the limiter :P

It's only tough depending on the riders ability or lack of. Aero's are one thing but until cars are turning 600+ at the wheels, power to weight of the bike is the favored always. Top speed is one thing, how QUICK you get there is the main thing. The Z06 vette may top out higher then a stock zx-14 but the vette is a Dog after 150 and takes some time and distance to hit that speed. Bikes will be hitting atleast 170mph in much less time and distance. The 225mph may be possible with 800plus hp but your gonna need more then a mile to see it.
Lil snippet from a old fastbikes article pitting some capable cars against a stock 03 gixxer and a modded one. Even the busa powered radical never had a chance:

One can argue the caliber of rider but that just shows the obvious. Not everyone can run these bikes to their true ability. Some think they're giving all over 140mph but with being intimidated and especially just wondering a bit of what thier opponant is doing, they're slowing themselves down and will get limp wristed. Have a competent rider on there and even at high speeds any cage under 800hp will have a bad day.

another example of rider ability. I've seen cars of this power put away similar modded busa's, 12's and liter bikes. Thing is the riders sucked. They hardly tuck in, don't clutchless shift, and obviously get a lil gunshy over 150mph. This busa runner obviously knows what he's doing and as you can see even after 150mph, the 700hp viper wasn't makin no ground up. Better aero's or not.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lnt_6rfXXsU
Now imagine what a properly rode 14 will do. Before going nuts with boost and big bores, it pays to get to know what you got BEFORE making the bike more powerful and vicious. ;-)

I was at a track this past summer at KCIR and ran a best of 9.82 that night at 144.71. I watched a supra that was notorius for having 1000hp or better? run a 10.02 at 143. Out on the street at speeds of 80+ That car would be a handful , I'm sure a vette with 860whp can run 225 as claimed. Lingenfelters twin turbo with 750hp runs 225 also? So what's with all the doubt?? Not to mention at speed the vette has an advantage of turning, and being able to stand on the brakes without fear of the front end washing out. I wish I had a nice vette with that kind of whp
