Poll Question:
POLL: High Speed Wobble

I see the threads about steering dampeners, but I've never had a significant wobble on my ZX-14. Just wanted to see what everyone else's experience has been. The only wobble I've ever had was very minor and I think it was caused by wind turbulence from a truck.

What's the worst wobble you've had on a ZX-14?

Like you I've never had a wobble in the normal sense of the word and I expect I've been as fast as anyone on a ZX-14.

The only "moment" I ever had was on a top speed run with the front strapped right down. This compresses the forks to such an extent that there is no damping at all. The bike shook it's head a bit when coming down from a power wheely as it bounced off the tire. I just kept it nailed and it sorted itself out. No prob's.

happened to me couple of times in second gear roll on at 50 miles give it full throttle, front wheel going up a little bit caused wobbling.

I've never had any wobbles. With my tank bag I can't tuck my head under the screen, so the front end becomes very light at 175 mph or so (indicated). Still, as stable as ever...

Sanctioned Texas Mile required a damper. I do like it. $700. hurt. Factory would be nice.

No wobble here at all, see no need for a damper unless rules say so.

We have some long bridges and I've pinned the 14 as many times as I can count and never had a high speed wobble. I try not to wheelie but the front wheel goes up sometimes shifting gears and such and still no wobble. Weebles wobble but my 14 never has.

If you guys set your suspension up for your weight and the way you ride correctly then there should not be any wobbles, unless of bad roads under acceleration or when wheel touches down from power wheelies...

I've rode bike with dampers and I don't like them. I'd rather feel the feedback from the road. I have had my front wheel kick a little from hard accelleration on my old bike. I would just keep my hands relaxed on the bars and it would straighten itself out on its own. I don't see myself getting one for the 14.

Like Doug Meyers says...
"you dont need them untill you need them and then you REALLY need them!!!!

I agree 110%... if you are going to race, do power wheelies, do top speed runs then you need one!

I had a tiny wobble once after coming down from a slight power wheelie while in a slight turn... but then I'd expect it in that circumstatnce. Other than that, as long as the front tire is on the ground - even at 170+ speeds, no wobbles at all.

I've done quite a few wheelies and when I come down with the wheel turned a little I get a very slight wobble but it straightens out immediately if I stay light on the controls. It also does it sometimes when I passing in 2nd and the front comes up for a split second, but then it always straightens immediately too. Only the 1 incident from the turbulence caused it to wobble more than 2 or 3 quick times. I even came down hard AND crooked from a big wheelie one time and to my amazement the wobble simply vanished after maybe 3 oscillations.

Too many groceries in the luggage lightening the front up! In such case, you need a stabalizer! I suggest putting nothing heavier than this on the back without a stabalizer hehe:

Try this........as your riding your 14 at around 100 mph, gently move your bars side to side. You will see that it won't take much to get this bike to wobble. Just because you've never had one doesn't mean you don't need a damper. I'm getting one............be safe!!

If I got a damper for my 14 it'd be for bling and thats it. I ride the %$#! out of it wide open, and its never wobbled. Sure it gets a few bounces on the way down from a hard shift. But it straightens up without a damper, even after a good tank slapper. I never have tried to intentionally make it wobble. Then again I wouldn't waste money correcting an intentional wobble anyway.

She looks more like the gixxer type anyway. Beats the alternative though (big booty). I'll put an anorexic chick on the back, but never a big 'un!

ya I'd be first in line for a damper if my 14 even "suggested" it was going to wobble at speed across our bridges. I'm surprised I haven't bumped into you around here yet. Hopefully we won't meet up in jail, watch out for the po po!
