When the/any duc beats my 14/gen3 flys out--- maybe
But probably not 60k for a bike link or 2. And uncomfortable.
And I'm giving the ducs a break because I don't think anything they are selling w/stock wheelbase will beat my 14 in the 1/4, will it.

I was referring more to the high cost, high maintenance, low functionality of Paris Hilton, but the rest fits too IMO. I like the Ducati, but it's more about status instead of practicality.

...sorry, bug-guy...but my moto-metaphor for the hilton HO-tel is that she's more like a Buell Ulysses...kinda' interesting to look at, gets dirty, can handle some rough stuff, some guys and girls might not mind being seen on one, but not everyone's cup of T-etracycline...

...and the Ducati?...I'm in lust...

I think not if i were to use the 1098 for one of my 1000+ mile a day runs !

But perhaps for some of my highly spirited short runs i'd be interested ....

I'd miss the big boys bike fo' sho' !

I have no experience with a ZX-14 but I must say the hordes of people riding around on the street with a ZX-10 or a Gixxer 1000 or an R1 who call Ducati owners posers- that's a laugh! Unless you are on the track , all these superbikes including the Duc are pure overkill. Put the slightly better rider on any of those bikes and go from point a to point b on a twisty road and the better rider will win every time regardless of which bike he is on. Anyone who claims they ride a 160 hp Japanese sportbike on the road and chose it for practical reasons over the Duc image is full of b.s. I'd suggest they'd be perfectly happy with the broad torque curve of a 130 hp Ducati if they weren't so image-conscious for that 160 HP poser bike.

You're half right, well, maybe 25% right anyway. You can't ride a ZX-14, Gixxer or a Ducati to it's full potential on public streets, but you also can't ride a Vespa to it's full potential most of the time either. But, when you crank the throttle on the highway you asshole is going to pucker up a lot more on the Gixxer, and especially on the ZX-14!

If you can't feel that difference and appreciate it, go with the Vespa.

Fish, since you're getting a little older, fatter and softer, why not choose the bike that best epitomizes those characteristics...ZX-14. Also, the Ducati's huge unmitigated sub-7000rpm torque is quite irresponsible.

I really like my zx. Valve adjustmenst every 15K miles. Smooth power for touring and camping for days and enough weight to be rock steady and still get out of its way. But , at heart I'm a twin guy. If I had more time for squriten around and touring I'd have both. But that will never happen for another 15.5 years when my twins leave the house. My brief affair with my 999 three years ago will be memorable though.
