Poll Question:
If you had to choose (Poll)

If both cost the same.... The ZX-14 and the 1098 (well, right now it's getting close)... which would you choose?

Think long and hard about it ...

Remember... if they cost the same to buy.....

it's a pretty tough choice... I have to tell you that my personal experience of owning a duc for 4 years was that I was never more satisfied owning a motorcycle....

this certainly makes this choice considerably more difficult...

Damn, that duc is nice. But for the riding I intend to be doing for the next couple of years...two up, some touring....and my daily commuter....I have to stay with the 14......but that duc is sweet!!

No personal Duc experience, but from what I hear the maintenance intervals are VERY short and a trip to the dealer for that maintenance is pretty pricy. I'll stick with the good 'ol reliable Japanese bikes until I'm at the point where I have a few bikes in the stable to spread the mileage on.

+1 on the touring capabilities nabrxx... try putting 3,000+ miles on a Duc in one week and see what your butt thinks about it!

Seems to me that the Duc is a raceable piece of art, it's not really designed for the masses who put high miles on their bikes year after year (unless you have deep pockets).

I too don't like the high maintenance.14 for me because I like the straight line stuff.Ipretty much ride the speed limit on the road so a Ducati would be a waste.I do like the looks tho!

If they were the same price it would remove some of the esteem and mystery from the Duc so I wouldnt want it... that sounds pretty shallow but I dont really mean it like that I think I would keep the 14 but would love to have both I still love ridin my 10r in the twisties

I think the Duc compared to the R1 or any of the liter bikes would be a more fair comparison. The liter bikes are even priced up there with the ZX14.

Oh well if this thread is in both the Duc forum and the ZX14 forum and the ZX14 forum has around 200% more members.... wonder which bike will win, thats almost like the Duc 1098 winning "prettiest bike in thew world" at the Milan show!

I won't have to ask my probability and statistics teacher help me figure this one out

I chose the 14 (poll), but it would depend on how comfortable or uncomfortable the Duc is. If the Duc is as comfortable as say the 04-05 ZX-10, then I would definitely go with the Duc. I'm only 39, but feel considerably older. lol

Duc's are made of spaghetti, you put meatballs in the tank and they go, till they break down again, usually a day or so later.

DUC's are for yuppie wannabe's...is that what you're aspiring to be Fishy?:P

Don't expect the ZX14 members to vote in favor of the DUC...that's why we're here in the ZX14 area...and so far, the DUC is way, way behind in votes...Hell, I voted ZX14 42 times already to sway the vote.

Everyone I know who owns a DUC either can't ride, wants to learn to ride, falls of their bikes on parking lots, or owns stock in Ducatti. DUC's are for 's:P

Now, can I tell you how I really feel?

If Kawasaki had built this exact same bike, I think most of us would be praising Kaw. I've never been a fan of Ducati or Harley simply because I think they are overpriced and unreliable, but this 1098 is intriguing because of the cost, performance and the astounding beauty of this bike. I'm just not sold on the reliability or practicality of this bike. But none of us can deny the effort of Duc to try and reach the dominant Japanese market.

I find it really hard to believe that people are voting here based on fact... if you compared the two bikes you'd be hard pressed to justify paying the same for the 14 as a duc... take a look at all the bits the duc comes fitted with...

i would go with the 1098 in red. i have had it set as my desktop wallpaper since i first saw it- looks to be the perfect track bike for a man of my carriage. i prefer my zx-12 over my 14 anyway... so my stroker 12 + a duc 1098 would make me pretty happy. DUCATI.

I have always found Ducati's to be interesting to look at. I actually did a demo ride on a couple of them this year. I rode the Monster 1000 (air cooled motor) and the 800 SS. No chance to get on a 999 or 749. I was a bit disappointed in them. The engines are not as smooth as I would of thought. Not nearly as smooth as as my SV 650. I also found them insanely over geared. You would have to decrease the counter shaft or increase the size the rear sprocket (or both) to make them ridable.

All that being said though, the 1098 is a gorgeous bike. It would look great in a plexiglass case in my living room. Having a V-twin, I can attest to the fact that it is not all about peak horsepower. My SV with a whole 71 rear wheel horsepower will destroy an a new R6 in a top gear roll on. I have ridden with guys on 600cc SS bikes and unless there is a lot of long straights when we hit the twisties, I am always right with on the SV with way less horsepower.

I hope to have the chance to ride a 1098 at some point as I have to say, it really looks to be a great bike.
