oil found in intake area when removing flys

Pulled the flys,

Inside the flys opening was about 200ml of oil.

Anyone see this when you pulled the flys???

ANy idea why there would be oil at the seat side base of the intake box?

I will post pictures when I get them from my friend. Wierd.

Oil was not overfilled. WHen sighted it showed below a bit. Oil changed twice and the bike has 3232 on the bike when I opened it up.

Any ideas welcome.

I've seen that once while removing flies from another 14 and have come to the conclusion that the motor was overfilled and run normal ... WFO!

It's normal..........I used to get a lot more than that from all the high RPM canyon riding.........I don't have to worry about it now because I don't use the airbox :-)

FWIW, my 12R had oil residue in the intake. I was told that is normal, due to the breather, or something like that...

Holy shit, I was freaked out. I did run the bike a bit agressviely, but what the hell, that was what it was built for.

I will run it harder now that the flys are out.... Thanks guys. I will run the pics to the dealer and ask them.

When I had the 14 tuned up I was told the same thing. Seems oil foaming is common with this bike, the solution was to run the bike about 1/4 qt lower than full (provided you fell comfy doing this).
Be aware that you want to check the oil level in the same place. I have the centerstand and that puppy will read different with the slightest angle.

Can't seem to locate this piece on my bike .

I had alot of oil in there when flys were pulled. The oil level was normal but I ride really hard, high rr's all the time. Also twisties most weekends. Maybe being leaned over and on it out of the turns does something. I lean way over, fairings scraped both sides, gotta learn how not to do that.

.......I've since cleaned up the extra permatex - that oughta hold it :-)

Ya, you defintely got lower than me. Its not how low you go, its how fast you go. I'm just an amature, but I like getting low, not that low though.
Man, hop you were OK.

Broke the left clavicle in 2 places, but I heal fast.............was doing push-ups again in about 5 weeks. I was in the Malibu canyons.........Piuma/Stunt road - you must know it.........great place.

After the insurance estimate ($4800) was done I told the shop that I would do it all myself.........so it gets a homebrewed turbo with all the goodies :-)

Checked the valves while apart - all were w/i spec at 10K miles and I sealed it up good - so I ain't touching that for another 15K or so...........PIA
