Well, i'm getting a ZZR1400 mainly as a sport tourer for two, so the ABS would give me alittle more peace of mind.

I do go for the occasional trackday, hopefully ground clearance would not be that much of an issue.

Ground clearance is more of an issue with ABS?

I was refering to the ground clearance of the bike at full lean.

I believe the ABS and non-ABS models are identical in terms of cornering capability.

Anyway, I've put about 1000miles on my bike in two weeks. Very nice machine. Will go for a trackday after my next oil change.

I just ordered an ABS model - there is NO difference in handling according to my dealer. I ordered the ABS coz last time i fell off a bike was due to brake lockup. Get it in 3 day - cant wait

ABS has just become available in the UK as a £500.00 option.
If I was ordering today, I would get it fitted.
I have had one bad "off" in my biking history, panicked when something happened in front of me, grabbed a handful and washed out the front.
Worst feeling in the world that was, and try as I could to keep the bike upright she went down big time. I wasn't badly hurt but it was a horrible feeling, one that I would hate to go through again.
I don't care how good a rider you (or I) think we are, when the shit hits the fan the reaction is to grab everything in sight, whether that be the front brake, rear brake, your bollocks, whatever.
ABS could (could) prevent you going down in that instance. I'm not saying it will stop you any quicker...it won't. But if it prevents your wheels from locking up (especially the front) then it's good enough for me.
My next bike (another 1400) will have ABS

True dat - and you may wish you were in a car wearing a seatbelt when the old lady pulls her cager out in front of you too, your point?

only 1 out of every gazillion bikes come standard with ABS, I choose to purchase an ABS equipped bike about the time my retirement benefits come in~

Smiffy, don't waste your breath...they're all too good this side of the pond - that and different laws of physics apply.
It's only appropriate for us pasty complexion Europeans who don't know how to brake.
Don't stir them up again, they'll just start insulting your riding ability and calling you ghey or something equally as imaginitive

The 14ABS vs. non-ABS 14, same OEM tyres in both bikes, full braking from 35 mph (spot the difference):
