Bike cuts out when warm

I went riding today for about 4 hours. No problems at all until I was a few miles from home and got stuck in traffic. The temp went up to the next to the highest bar and then the engine started to die. It shut off about 5 times. Each time I was able to restart without a problem. After I got moving again, no more problems. Is there something wrong with the bike or is this the way it's supposed to be?

It's a zx-14 with 1300 miles on it. It has a 4-1 Muzzy exhaust, PC, and flies are out. I had some problems with it cutting out before but that was the ground for the PC. The ground has been relocated. Since then, I've ridden a few hundred miles with no problems at all.

1st step: disconnect the PC altogether and see if the bike still does it.

Also, if the idle is under 800, it will cut out.

Idle is about 1200. I will try to duplicate it with the PC disconnected.

FBA is correct, after last weeks tune it seems my idle is 900. Not a bad thing but it's a must to warm up. I jumped on the 14 giving about 15 secs to warm 1st gear - 2nd gear pulled in the clutch and she died. No biggie but I'd like Fish or FBA to give me their opinion about leaving it at 900. My plan is to leave it alone unless it become a problem.

Oh yea since the tune my MPG has gone to hell. 38 and I'm riding like a puss to see if I can achieve 40. Guess a clean air filter will do that to you.

I'M NOT FISH OR FBA... But 900 rpm is to low for your oil pressure and charging system

It comes at just under 900 from Kaw...it's not low. I already checked voltage and it just shy of 13, where it should be at idle and oil pressure seems perfect. Idling higher than that with a gen III pipe causes major backfire on decel...at 9K miles now, she's perfect in all respects, so I don't buy the low oil and charge thing...my proof has shown that to be erroneous...sorry 1BAD...

HIMILE...I get 32 only...so 38, well that's great!

FBA, 1BadZX
I think both maybe correct here. Look when the bike is fired up rpms run up 1500+. The Cam Chain adjuster tightens quickly and all is good. There are days that the bike will sit for 1.5 hours and its warm enough to not really kick in the cold idle, and most of the oil is in the pan causing a neat metal on metal sound. Kawasaki engineers said don't worry about it. With synthetic oil I don't. (lets hope this is not a VF750 "Don't Worry about it")
Thanks again for the information.
