manual cam chain tensioner

Installed the manual cam chain tensioner from A.P.E. on the 14 today and the low rpm knocking noises that I mentioned a while back have stopped. Also good is that there is no start up clatter anymore cuz the slippers are snug all the time now..well worth the price

Do yourself a favor and put the OEM tensioner back on!!!

Have heard and seen alot of bikes break the cam chain from manual adjusters being too tight...

+1, you have to keep a very close eye on manual tensioners. My rattle went away as soon as I switched to mobil 1 synthetic.

Tension is maintaned by engine oil pressure......not a spring.........

Was gonna say, better check your tension every couple thousand miles... if it goes loose, the chain can jump and drive the valves into the pistons....

Too many horror stories around manual tensioners, ask 100 guys get 100 different opinions on how to adjust them. Can't justify using one with a stock chain.Stay with the stocker.

Converted my old 1000 to manual and worked just fine. These auto tensioners are just a convenience for those who don't want to do any work on their bikes but beware after they wear a little......Manual is they way to go...

Brought my Busa home in the pickup.........rolled it in the garage and installed the APE manual cam chain adjuster. The early Busa's had cam chain adjuster problems and I wasn't taking any chances. They make a good, reliable adjuster. If you guys are running 10/30 or 5/30 weights it's gonna rattle at idle. The 15/50 Mobil 1 works real well and is VERY good protection under real hot or high stress conditions like top end runs. (very stable) Should help keep it quieter at idle.............

As long as you adjust the manual tensioner so no play in the crank is noticed there should be no problems.
Now if you preload the chain after crank play has been removed then .. well

But like chez says:
