Full exhaust install complexity

I'm leaning toward getting the Brock Gen3 instead of slip ons, but can anyone tell me about how much work is involved if I do it myself. 2 hrs? More importantly, do I have to weld or cut anything to install a full system?

I mentioned in another post that I was concerned about my Corbin bags fitting properly. Does Brocks pipe come up any higher than the stock pipes? I don't see the width being a problem. I guess the lateral position of the top of the pipe would be important though. Any info?

Oh, and thanks for all the help already. I've learned an ungodly amount just browsing through this forum for 3 weeks or so. I wish the search feature was a little more robust, though. Maybe I wouldn't have to ask so many questions.

Exhaust install is a piece of cake. Here's the instructions that I wrote for the Gen 3 but it should apply to most aftermarket 4-2-1 systems.

Awesome writeup Raptor. Sounds like a bit of a job but very straight forward. Thanks.

I was looking at that writeup on the flies removal too. If I drop a screw will the primaries catch it or do I have major issues then?

The primaries will indeed catch the screws and a small magnet makes retrieving them easy. Just DO NOT touch the throttle!

BTW, having the pipes ceramic coated makes the pipe install more difficult but not unmanageable with the above instructions.

If you use a big long screwdriver, the screws come out easy...and take Stalwart's advice...get a pickup magnet. I heard some idiot on ZX14NINJA.com dropped the screw into the intake right down below the primaries...LOL, I don't know how he did that...but he wasn't able to get it out (seriously)...

If you're worried, get some black friction (hockey) tape and wrap the throttle to the bracket with it so it doesn't turn...simple...

I work on computers a lot and I drop screws all the time with magnetic screwdrivers, so I'd prefer to take every precaution possible. I'm not sure what throttle you are talking about wrapping exactly, but I should be able to tape the butterflies to the inside of throttle body(proper terminology?). Maybe it'll make more sense once I get the tank off.

Does Brock have a map for flies out with the stock exhaust? May hold off on the Gen3 since I'm strapped for cash.

the screws actually were a small pain in the ass on mine- a little tighter than expected and started stripping a bit but no problems - waited until i got to bills shop (zx1kr) to remove them, then immediately went onto the dyno for tuning with stock exhaust
phytrax- bill has a map available and has power commanders preloaded with it for no flies+stock exhaust - you should give him a call, the map he made is PERFECT his number is 631-580-1301

Thanks a lot. I'm gonna bookmark this until I get back on the beach. I guess Brock will give me an updated map if I buy his exhaust later on.

One of the screws in my flies was a nightmare. I had to hammer a screw driver into it several times. Even tried recutting the grooves in the head with a sharpened screwdriver which helped some. I tried 5 or 6 different heads for my screwdriver. Finally found my standard, plain ole screwdriver and it fit perfect into the new notches and was able to unscrew it. Tapping the screwdriver into the head a bit the first time with a hammer DEFINITELY helps. Wish I'd done that from the start.
