Maintenance questions

Can anyone post some pics on taking it out the air filter? , And how often is the valve adjustment schedule? Mine had the 600 mile stuff done, now I have about 4000 miles on it(synthetic was added at 2000 miles)

Valve adjustments..No. Valve check..yes, well my mouth to Gods ears anyway. That comes at 15,000 miles. I have not taken out the air filter just yet, normal replacement for me is about 24K.

When in doubt check your owners manual...you'd be surprised on the info you find in there....unless you're from Canada.....your 14 may not have come with one...I believe it's an option....

Sure -- whatever you say

Are you sure? According to ZZR1400 service schedule I received from a local dealer says that the valve check comes at 42000 km/26000 ml.

The US,CA, Au models show a 24000 km/15000 mile valve inspection. Other than US CA, Au models, the valve inspection is every 42000km(26000 mile) listed in section 2-3 of the periodic maintenance chart of the service manual.
Does anyone know why the US models need more frequent checkups?

That's interesting, keep me up to date I've never heard of a Kawasaki (sportbike) going 26,000 miles.

How else are the US dealers going to make money?
Valve adjustment can be done by anyone with common tools and a gauge feeler...and a service manual

You are getting a little broad there with "anyone".

I'm not alluding to anyone here or anywhere else in particular, but this is not a job for a guy that struggles with an oil change or owns a 12 piece box-end wrench set.

......just tryin' to keep up.........

So........you guys that do your own.......
Do you use the higher or lower spec?
Book calls for .15 - .20 on the intake and I usually shoot for the median, but wanted to get some input.......

For a street driven bike you want to shoot for the median. Go tighter the second time around because in my experience the big wear is break-in.

Race motors tend to run on the tighter end (at least the one's I know do) but you are tearing down the motor constantly so who cares.

Unless you enjoy doing the job and are concerned with wringing the last 0.10 HP out of the bike you'll want to ride the median and not mess with it for another 15K miles

Just my .03 (adjusted for inflation).

Point taken...I'll rephrase...anyone who can tackle an oil change while drinking a cold beer and not strip the drain plug by mistakenly using an SAE socket on a metric head.....
As for the wrench set...depends what's in the 12 piece set...
