gearing for drag racing

Im wanting some thoughts on gearing for drag racing. 8 inches over ,215 lb rider, lowered, already geared down 16 in front. And should i take flies out now? What tooth sprocket for the rear? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

How are you changing gear?

If it's manually you need to limit the number of changes, so if you plan to finish in 4th you'll not get much more than 150mph terminal speed with 16/41.

It's worth removing the flies, even if you plan to keep the rev's above 5000 to launch at least it won't bog down if the revs do drop. Will need a re-map though.

I run 16/44, but recently changed back to 16/41 to test some things out. Take the flies out, I've noticed no real difference in launch, but it seems to pull harder.
Also, your too long. 8" over will just spin the tire, unless you have a sticky tire on it, and a great track. 44tooth rear will put you through the traps in the middle of 5th gear. 41T will put you through the traps at the top of 4th.
For right now, if I where you, I'd move the rear wheel forward a couple of inches, and just run it like it is to get used to it. This hydraulic clutch takes a deft hand to launch hard, and lots of practice.

With a airshifter I want as much gear as possible. I run at a horrible track and use a shinko and I'm not having alot of traction problems. The 16-44 puts me at the very top of 5th going thru the traps...your the same weight as me so we need alittle more gear. I would say take the flies out...doesn't make much differance if you dragrace because you should never see less than 5-6000 RPM, unless you launch real soft. You will have to have the bike mapped if you take them out.

Dunno yet. Been working, and everytime I try to go too the track it fricking rains. I tried 16/41 before and was happy with it, but noticed a couple of times I was close to the rev limiter exiting the speed trap, so I figured I'd try the 44 rear. Still havent made more than about 10 passes with that combination. The weather here in Southern Louisiana sucks ass most of the year. either stiffiling hot/humid, or raining.

i think 16/41 is good gear for you at 216 lbs. if you got a street meg or a side winder you got plenty of low end to pull you out the gate. i will master my 16/42 gear for now and maybe next year i will go to 17/44 i am very curious about that gearing . not saying it will work but i just wanted to try it. i am 273 lbs
