Coulda used a slipper clutch today...

ON the freeway some shitface in a BMW X5 decides to cut me off... I stay behind him for a mile or so, then pull into the right lane to pass him... he cuts into my lane right infront of me (gee.. couldnt see that coming)... I slam the bike into 1st gear and lay on the brakes... mismatch the shift by a few grand... on my 10R in this panic situation the bike would've adapted for me.. absorbing my error.... on the 14 it locked the rear wheel up for a wee while... Slid it around for a bit, then got everything back in synch and off I went...

yes... eventually he exited and I did give him the salute

Some cagers will just never change. In situations like this with both hands are more appropriate.

Fish, no 1" ball bearings in your pockets? Remember, you are only dumping ballast. They make for mighty big holes in radiators and dump the ENTIRE coolant supply in moments . . .

Need a way to 'dispense' aforementioned ball bearings via the exhaust system.

Everyone over here in these parts say the porcelain off sparkplugs does the trick.
Maybe it's harder than regular porcelain. Don't know.

Toss it at the front window for an instant crack.
Make sure you get the right window! (very important!)

Now I would never ever do this (for those popo that may read this) but I hear its effective.

That would be easy but would require a small exhaust pipe or some FOOKIN' HUGE ball bearings.

I was waiting on a light one day in the right lane of two lanes going forward, I was 1st vehicle.
As the light turned green I went forward with traffic about 40 mph the car on my left was next to me. Then from the right side of me driving next to the curb some dumbass in a piece of shit car came up on my right and started drifting into me, there is NO LANE there.
Its like he was cherrypicking everyone at the light from the right turn only lane.
His window was down so I started flipping him off and calling him an asshole to his face, he just smiled and kept coming into me. Young guy about 20, thin, messed up black hair.
I rode in front of him turning around on my seat and flipping him off but there really wasn't anything I could do.
I challenged him to pull over so we could discuss this thing as "gentlemen", but he just kept going like a dazed smoked out kid with no social consciousness.

I hate those feelings of rage where you know you can't do anything about it. But on the other hand, in the news this morning two drivers pulled over to the side of the road because one cut the other off and the front driver shot the other guy. It happened right down the street. Their looking for the shooter as we speak.

I use to drive 18 wheelers.. People would just pull out in front of a truck thinking its got brakes... Most times i could stop sometimes i couldn't... On the police report they say i just didnt SEE the TRUCK ...SO if people can't SEE a LOADED TRUCK then don't bet they SEE a MOTORCYCLE or care because they have the bigger auto...THEY don't see TRAINS either

Everyone that hits another vehicle says the same thing, "I didn't see the other guy".
What else can they say, I saw them so I hit them anyway?
My dad drove long haul (18 wheelers) for years and west coastal for 11 years, he would tell me a car would try to outrun him on the onramp and bounce off his tires.
They give ANYONE a license out here in California.
I am going to mount my camera on my bike and create a site just to watch the video of all the ignorant stuff I see daily. I'll call the site "all the stuff you see but forgot to tape"

dude, why would you bother downshifting in this situation? just put on the binders and slow down. it's not like u'r gonna stall the engine on the highway in 2nd. trying to impress the bimmer with your hgih RPM screaming or something?

as to the dumbass who made that move, that happens about half the time i try to pass someone on the right. i guess it's simply a case of they only get that you wanna pass them once you start to change lanes, so then they do a "let me get out of your way now that it's too late" maneuver. i simply _expect_ and prepare for that move.

freek, since apparently you still dont know how to use your engine, part of defensive rider training (if you'd taken any courses in this) involves the concept that your engine performs at an optimum RPM, where it can accelerate often better than you could brake safely in a given emergency situation... part of this training involves teaching the rider to "accelerate away" from a potential accident and teaching the rider to leave a holeshot for yourself at all times in the event that braking force in not sufficient or safe.

In the scenario I outlined above, as the driver of the SUV cut infront of me I braked rapidly and geared down... I simultaneously spotted a mental "escape route" which was to the far right of the SUV on the right shoulder of the highway. The concept of this gearing down and braking is that, had I not been able to slow myself sufficiently, I would have gotten back on the gas and accelerated hard and to the extreme right, steering around the offending SUV and subsequent traffic.

The way that you (specifically) ride your bike (lugging or "under revving" your engine) will potentially one day bite you back, and hard.. not only is it damaging to your engine, but had you not geared down in the above situation and had been fully cut off, going for an escape route would have been pointless as your bike would have bogged down as it would be revving at, say 4 grand, instead of 8 grand (where it should be in this scenario) well under its optimum performance range... you'd end up eating the back end of the SUV.

I'd seriously recommend taking some of your hard earned money and pay for a rider training course... it could save your life and hopefully prevent you from making uneducated comments like the one in this topic.

Glock will run you way less than a slipper clutch. The shooting may have greater implications than the clutch though....

I support frEEk on this on Fish...

Down shifting into 1st. gear is a waste of time when you should be on the front brakes looking for an out !!!...Not to mention dangerous, since your back tire is locked up fish tailing...What the hell, you been hanging out with the Harley guys???...They do stupid shit like that!!!

I'm surprised at you Fish...Dont let me hear about this Harley guy type of riding again!!!

Freek is an expert on braking, after all. And he isn't a fan of 'engine braking', due to the umm... 'performance characteristics' of his ride.
