Can't install system. Hit filter!

I have a SuperTech ST7317 oil filter on my bike. The head pipes won't clear. Do I have to use the Kawa filter? Is there something else that I won't have to drive 20 miles to get. Need answer quick. I'm in the middle of this install.

I have the same problem but there are a few things you can do to help that. One leave the exhaust loose and before you tighten it up, pull it away from the filter and tighten it up...if you still have a problem...and yes this sucks.....dimple your oil filter. I took a small rubber hammer and dempled the corner of my oil filter to clear the pipes. If you ever have a chance, use the 002 oil filter it's alittle shorter and it clears alot better. I have not tried this but you might be able to wrap a ratch it strap around the pipes and tighten it down, then tighten your header bolts up...that might get you the clearance you need.

I just did some cross referencing and found out that the 7317 is 3.25 inches long and I can get the same filter under another number that is 2.75 inches long. Going shopping. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Use the Purolator Pure1 PL14612.

It's one of the best filters on the market and should clear your header no problem (it's 2 3/4" long).

Advance Auto carries them. They are about $5 a pop.

I run that filter on both my 12 and R1.

Local parts house didn't have the Purolator but did have the Mobile 1... M1-108. It is a direct cross and gives plenty of clearance.

I finished installing the system, the PC and removed the flys. Couldn't get the nut off to change the front sprocket. Will have to do that at work next week with the impact tools.

I just got back from my test flight. FUCK ME !!!!!!!!!!!!! Why didn't I do this sooner? It is unreal and sounds perfect. Power from the bottom to the top.

The black system with the carbon fiber canister looks badass. I'll post pics later.

Our system is appropriately oversized to allow the 14 TO BREATH.....especially when the ram air starts pushing even more gasses through an already thirsty engine. The fit is VERY tight...but it is what you need to go as fast as possible.

We can only make systems to function to work with O.E.M. parts because aftermarket items are not readily available to everyone.

Thanks to all for helping Navigator!

Brock

Ps. He has a prototype system that I think all will enjoy!

No worries on the Mobil1. It's a top flight filter too.

Generally speaking in independent testing the ranking is:

#1 Purolater Pure1
#2 Mobil1 (very close second to tie depending on who's doing the testing)
#3 Bosch

Brock,

But should I be concerned your system header is hitting the oil filter. I mean, like, pushed into it. That doesn't seem cool (Pun intended.). Something I should do/check?

Breathing? Is that what you call it Brock? Call it what you like. My bike runs like a bat out of hell. This is how a 14 is supposed to feel and sound. The great thing is that I didn't lose any of the smoothness that this bike is known for and now I won't have to watch out for that 6k rpm hit coming out of 2nd gear corners. It just pulls hard as soon as I twist the throttle.

Brock, I can't say thank you enough for helping me make my bike look, feel and sound just the way I wanted.

And to all the helpful members of this forum, for the filter assistance, for good advice and for being resourceful, inventive, and willing to test new ideas on your bikes THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
