CLUTCH PROBLEMS

this weekeng sucked. i have 1250 miles, and about 30 passes on my 14, and sunday on my 3rd pass (none back to back) the clutch completely burnt out. WTF? already? yeah im slippin it a little bit off the line, but not enough to wear it out that fast? its labor day and dealerships are closed today, but u guys think since the bike is less than 2 months old the warranty will cover it??? if not, where/what would be a good clutch to put in it??

i don't think warranty will cover clutch. it is called normal wear and tear.

That seems to have worn a bit prematurely. I've done around 50 passes in the last two meetings. At the last meeting I was launching at 7000rpm ( flies not out yet ) to get good drive and the clutch is still perfect.

well i noticed sat night that the gears were feeling kinda funny, but i was thinking it wasnt a big deal, maybe just getting hot. i do understand that its wear and tear but i agree bobc, that was WAY to early to wear out.

I don't think you will get warranty to cover it. Some people have trouble and others don't. I have 61 passes now and 4023 street miles and it's as good as the day I picked it up.

They will never warranty it...

Your probably slipping the clutch alot more than you think!!!...Only use OEM steels and fibers!!!

What kind of oil is in it?
____________
You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Crotch Rocket I wouldn't say NEVER. Lots of warranty claims are either approved or denied dependent on how the dealer presents the case to Kawasaki. I've got clutches replaced under warranty before.

I'm using Mobil1 Blue cap car synthetic in mine. Same oil that got me 250 plus passes and 8000 street miles out of my busa clutch, was still like new when I sold the bike.

My clutch gave out 2day. Im at 750 miles. This shit pisses me off. I would of kept my 12 if i knew this. I had oil changed at 600 miles. They used kawasaki oil off the shelf and kawasaki filter. If any1 knows the upgrades (like i read something about zx11 fibers) please fill me in. And i have some heavy duty springs i geuss im gonna try. Im glad i havent done any mods yet if the clutch wont hold up stock. Any advice would be appreciated.

first of all barnetts suck never use them oem are the best by far second a lock-up clutch is pretty much for drag racing, you have to have an air shifter to shift, at any kind of high rpmand /or rear wheel speed the clutch can not be pulled in since it is locked up! i have lockups on 2 off my bikes and you can cruise around town but ant thing above like 4000rpm you can not pull the clutch in! have to airshift. but slow cruising around you can shift pretty much normal. a lockup wil get you more passes out of a set of clutches but i really think you just need to learn the bike like stated above i would have to say you are slipping them pretty hard to burn them out that quick. when i bought my 2002 zx12r i toasted mine after 1400 miles and was on the second set, but that was street racing every weekend plus 2 nights every weekend at the track. AND I WAS SLIPPING THE HELL OUT OF MINE , WAS RUNNING 6.60'S 1/8TH MILE STOCK WHELLBASE LOWERED AND STRAPPED MUZZY FULL SYSTEM AND POWWERCOMMANDER. I WAS CARRYING THE FRONT WHEEL ABOUT 2 FEET OF THE GROUND 1RST 2ND 3RD SLIPPING THEM TO KEEP IT FROM COMING UP ANY HIGHER.
HOPE THIS HELPS

I just pulled mine again just for inspection and it looks great still,
with over 100 passes, 1200mi.

Before I put it back rogether can anyone give me the service limit on the fibers,
or an overall stack height measurement? (I've got 54mm right now)

Thanks for the help.

I would bet money, the guys on here going thru clutches are slipping the hell out of them. They are a few of us on here with alot of passes and are clutches are fine. I do what i call throwing the lever away, I leave at 2000 to 2500 and more or less dump the lever and apply gas at the same time. My best so far is a 1.57 60 ft and 9.48 at 150. and I'm over 230 suited. Oh ya and I use the oil everyone says will make your clutch slip. Mobil 1 blue cap car oil. Been in since 600 miles

All you guys that are getting clutch life, is not good to hear for the Rookie DragRacers...

We already have a clutch hand, that's why we get long life from the clutches!!!

To all you Rookie DragRacers, in the beginning you'll get no clutch life until you start letting the clutch out faster...It takes time...Each time your clutch life will increase!!!
