violent gear selection Hi guys, just curious. Have heard and read that the zx14 gear selection is "snick snick" slick, however on my 14 it's only 4,5, and 6 that's slick. From 3rd to 1st it becomes increasingly violent. When I see a stop sign I start sweating now! I'm using the recommended oil (15w50 motul) and wanted to get your thoghts/experiences? Thanks in advance

My Katana 750 had a little click in the first few gears. The ZX9 had a somewhat bigger click, and yes, the 14 has an even bigger click with an authority sound. On my bike it appears most obvious when shifting down into first, especially if i'm going faster than I should've.
I haven't given it much thought, and it hasn't been a problem in my 2700 miles.

950. It doesn't feel like anything mechanical is wrong, my chain tension is good too. However it just feels a bit violent when I shift from N to 1st. When the guys say there's smooth, does that mean 5 to 6 feels the same as N to 1st?

all bikes need to break in... you might want to ride it around for a day or two shifting through the gears repeatedly to allow it to continue to break in. At 950 miles you dont have enough time on the engine and tranny for it to be fully seated in. My 10R took until 2K miles before the shifting was perfect.

My bike goes from nuetral to first with an audible "clunk" that you can feel through the bike. My 98 balckbird did the same thing throught its 80,000 mile life. I got used to it and it became a "heads up" notice for passengers to hold on at lights.

That's exactly what mine does, so this is normal then. Why would vegasdude and smokinzx14 gearboxes not do so? Thanks for input, thought I may have had a gremlin!

If I pump the clutch twice and hold, the "clunk" into first from neutral is greatly reduced.

If I pull the clutch a few seconds before shifing into 1st from N, and blip the throttle...no clunck...but that's too much trouble. I'll live with the clunck. ____________

Mine got much smoother after about 3000k too.
Every bike I have ever pulled up beside, and ridden, all clunk from N to 1st.
Don't worry about it.

Thanks for all you inputs.
PS nabrxx: I also briefly had the squeaky brakes. This happens when there is some dust on the pads, and the disk actually vibrates. Since the're floating the're more vulnrable. The reason (I think) they tend to sqeak is because the holes in the disks don't remove all the dust. The dust from the top and bottom of the pad stay while the rest of the pad is cleaned, making the problem worse. The reason it doesn't do it when new, the disk isn't smooth yet.
Anyway, quick fix is to apply front break as hard as you can without locking the front, while applying power. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!
Hope you come right. Cheers

after reading more of your comments, you might want to retitle your topic "clunking into 1st gear" instead of "violent gear selection"... they mean two totally different things in my books.
