Tires
Hey Guy's, I was the winner of the M3's on this site. Got an e-mail from them today that said they can't supply me the tires for the 14 because they have not been tested. I know some of you have tried them and liked them. They asked if I had another bike that I could use them on, which I don't. Anyone know what other bikes use these size tires?

Sick,
Like we told you, and was clearly stated in the contest rules, you can't get the tires for the 14 until they have been tested.. this could take several months. If there's another bike you want to get the tires for, no problem, but if it's the 14 you'll have to wait. They make spec tires for a reason.
Once again, this was clearly stated in the rules for the contest.

I'm not disagreeing with you fish. I know that you are right about the contest rules, but
I was looking up tires today. My rear is getting shot. 2500 no burnouts. Every tire I looked up; from the stock Bridgestones to the Pilot Powers, were rated to 168. So what is Metz talking about? They said this tire would be rated for every bike, but ours and the Busa. If I remember correctly. Looks like no tire is rated for 200 or even close.

Like I said (and is clearly stated), tire manufacturers make spec tires for specific high speed models (ie: the busa and the 14, 12R etc)... the tires have to be rated to withstand certain forces etc.
This isnt new information, was clearly stated in the contest rules, and since they make the tires and offered them up for free for the contest, there is really no debate...
Rules were simple... own a busa or a 14, you'll have to wait patiently... if you dont want to wait, then pick a different bike, or worse case forfeit your prize and we'll redraw the winner.
BTW Matt, we just ran some Qualifiers on the 14's and were really happy with them.. You could pick up a pair of those if you want. I ran them back to back with the OEM Bridgestones and personally felt they were considerably better/more planted/better feel.

Dunflops... Oh no.
Everyone know dunflop is great if they sponsor you, but mileage really sucks....

All I can say is that back to back on the 14 vs the OEM they felt better IMHO.

Don't take me the wrong way, I will wait for the tires. Not mad in any way! Hell, I'm just happy to have won something. Hope the members of bikeland don't think I was mad. Again thank you for the set of tires!!!!

For certain they probably did hook better.
My experience with dunlop has not been longevity though.
Dunlop appears to really like softer compounds... thus the hook and poor wear.
I really like the profile of the Strada Fish, my 14 feels much more responsive on initial turn in.
I am thinking, is there anyway you could find out what operating tire temps the manufactureres recommend.
I am thinking this may be the best way to determine what tire pressure is optimal for traction and wear characteristics.
I put 450k on the 14 , running speeds of 160-200 km for 2.5 - 3 hr ride time and burned the center right off the bt-014, i mean it wore down about 3/16 of an inch in 450k!
38.5 psi.

Lyle, you do 2200 KM's on a tire and you're surprised about the wear on this one?
All kidding aside though, the Strada should give you 70% more than your BT014's. I just didn't like 'em in wet...

The Pilot Sport HPX is the only tire other than our L spec BT-014 that is "rated" for big power bikes like our 14's, the busa, and the 12R. Just call Michelin and ask... that's the ONLY tire thet they will tell you is ok to use.
Who cares though. I'm going with a front PP and a rear Pilot Road for a long-ish trip I'm taking next month. I could probably make it on a rear PP, but I don't want to take any chances of needing a new tire while on the road. Not going to push super-hard on this trip anyway... it's just the Dragon.

Had a pilot power on my zx10 and did track days with speeds over 170 all the time no issues, ran the pilot on my busa with no issues and now have one on the 14 and love it. you could not give me a set of dunflops, they always seem to squirm around on me, I just don't care for the feel.

I have been running a set of Continental Road Attacks, which by the way are rated for use on the ZZR1400. I have 3766 miles on them and they are approximately 40% worn. They started out new with almost 7mm of tread as opposed to 4.9 mm on the Strada. I did over 650 miles of hard twisty and sweeper riding, 2600 miles of 80 to 100 mph slab work and the balance is commuting. Two of the guys I rode with are considered really fast in the turns and I had no problems staying with them. My pressures were set at 41 psi front and rear.

I have been running the Metzler M3's front and rear on my 14 for the last 4000 miles.
I hate these tires. They are hard hard hard. Metzler said on their site that the M3's out perform the M1's. I know the M1 p-spec is ok for the Busa but when I went on Metzlers site it said nothing about the 14, the M3's were new and they were preported to be their best tire. They were supposed to be a harder compound at the dome and softer/stickier on the sides for cornering. I would take my stock B014's back in a minute. These have no road feel, they slip all over the road. I have had em up to 150-160 mph so if they are going to fail someone from Metler should have told the guys who sold me the tires. If you want a tire that keeps it dome shape for a long long time these do that. I am going to put Pilot Powers or something like them on next. I lost cornering confidence since I put these M3's on.

That is the 1st negative comment I have heard on the M3's, I was all set to get me a pair, especially when you can get over 4,000 miles out of them (rear)

More marathon mailes tire chat!? I have a ZX14 and don't worry about such. Note above in my tire pic there are 2 rears with one front, and they are PP's. I expect 2500 miles from each rear while enjoying the smell of burning rubber occasionally (with Lee and them at the strip), and perhaps 5K from the front.
All "tire wear" issues on my sweet baby ninja monster have been resolved, and check mated!
c'mon man, run the hell outa the bike and enjoy it~

Harry, try the Road Attacks. I stayed with CrazyTrain and British Andy all thru Utah and Colorado. I never lost confidence in my tires. Those 2 guys can ride with the Georgia fast bunch anytime.
