Finally wound the bike out!

All I can say is that the '14 goes like a bat out of hell after today! As I posted back in mid June I had the misfortune to break a couple of bones in the back of my hand from a mountain bike accident, so my seat time on the '14 has been some what limited this summer. The low bars put a lot of strain on my hand, so I have had limited strength in my hand until the last few weeks. Until today I had only had the bike up to around 240 kph.

Well, today was the day. Checked the tire pressures and off I went to a nice remote 2 lane road. I did a pre-run at legal speeds to have a good look at the road to make sure there was no debri or obvious problems with the road. I rolled the bike up easy to 100 kph in third and then nailed it. Shifted at around 10,000 rpm on each up shift and was amazed at how quickly the speed rolled up. I had the speedo just past the 300 kph mark on the speedo and I had not hit the speed limiter. (I know that my actual speed was probably closer to 270 kph with the error) I was starting to run out of road so I backed off and let the bike coast down. Of course it was such a rush I had to turn around and have another go at it. I was bucking a slight head wind going the other way, but I still hit 300 in a surprisingly short period of time. I thought I felt a little vibration in the front end, but it was my helmet being buffeted as I was not tucked in tight enough as when I did get into a tighter tuck, the vibration was gone.

I have not had as much experience with high speeds as many of you have probably have had, but today was the fastest I have ever gone with the least amount of drama! The '14 felt absolutely glued to the road and did not show the slightest hint of instability at any time.

What an awesome machine!

Good to hear your healing up.

If the strength never comes back, and you really want to make a change in the riding position, let me know, I'll give you the part #'s and pics of my LSL clip on conversion.
More work but way more rise, and straighter bend than the heli plates.

Watch out for the popo!
It's fun isn't it!
I'm actually riding a little slower lately, I'm getting the feeling I'm pushing my luck with all these speed runs I do around here.
Everytime I get up past (indicated) 130 mph and above, My Cortech denim jacket starts slapping around really hard, its annoying. I think I need to go get a tight fitting leather jacket.
You wear full leathers on your run?

Dubious, could you share the conversion part numbers and pictures with the rest of us? Although I like the riding position with the Helis, I still find more weight on my wrists than I prefer on my fragile old bits. TIA

I'd like to know the part numbers and pics of the LSL clip-on conversion. I'm 6'2" and the bike is comfortable, but a slightly straighter position would make it perfect!

I'm with ya. My jacket flutters badly above 100. Time for a new one.

I ride with a vanson perferated and have seen speed with the bike. I cinch at the bottom and have no vibration. Leather is better at high speed for this type of run.

Yeah, you bet! Not that even full leathers would save your ass at 300 kph! It would help in leaving a slightly better looking corpse though! No nice gravel or grass run off areas like they have on a track...............just barb wire fences, trees and sign posts. Now that I have wound the bike out it will be a while before I do it again. The area I was in had a 80 kph speed limit, so I was only 220 kph over the posted limit...........................Yikes! The way the courts are now in regards to speeding I would lose my license for at least a year if caught at that speed, not to mention a huge fine, possible jail time as well and the near impossibility of getting insurance at an affordable rate any where.

My jacket fits pretty tight so there was no flapping of my leathers, just some buffeting on my helmet until I got into a tighter tuck on the bike.

I really am old enough to know better, but it sure as hell was a rush!
