Has anyone tighten the rear shock for launching

I tighten the rear shock on my xx. I tried launching it and the rear shock kept the front on the ground. The bike was stock height and length. I wonder if this would work on the14. I know the shock would want to push the weight back up. Has anyone tried this.

A buddy just did exactly that on his Busa, cranked it as hard as possible,
now he said it wants to standd up more. I don't know???
He was going for a little wheel spin.

If the tire hooks, and the suspension can't compress, it will want to wheelie.

He could increase the tire air pressure, to find the balance between spinning and wheeliing, or slip the clutch a little without backing off the throttle to control wheelies

Quite a bit of energy is wasted compressing the suspension on launches, if its stiff enough that wasted energy will now be applied to the tire,
more power to the tire = better accelleration, if the tire hooks though... kiss the sky!

I have not been to the dragstrip in 21 years(that changed this year). However. We do the same thing in off-road racing. You have to match the correct spring weight with the correct preload so the suspension actually works. Otherwise you just make the back wheel a pivot point because the suspension doesn't work. On the other side, it will just spin. That's a big part of how drift cars work.

Suspension is a huge tuning tool that can destroy you if you don't know what your doing.

To go further. If your suspesion is soft you won't launch off a jump it just soaks it up and won't fly. If the front or rear are to stiff, it will throw the opposite end off kilter.

well, im no expert at trying to explain it, but the suspension has to give a certain amount to transfer weight to stop front end from comming up. i have played with it quite a bit and on the 14, i have left the back stock and not having too much problem pulling 1.6x 60ft times with it for the first weekend at the track.

Good point - that energy has to go somewhere if the tire hooks up.

the times i did it on my xx the bike launched better than it ever had. The 14 launches very good with the factory setting. I have to use more clutch control. I think it should work. It should keep the weight from shifting back.

I put mine on full stiff. If i need alittle give i loosen my strap up alittle to help change the weight balance of the bike in a launch. I pull 1.47 sixty's with not alot of gear. Plus with the bike lowered, i put a few cranks on the spring just because it rubs with the muzzy non adjustable lowering links.
