Homegrown's reply from zx14ninja.com:
paulpjs - I won't tell you I actually did a pre-ride and checked the chain.. but considering the bike was only three weeks old... So far the dealer has said nothing about the chain (or much else... what a surprise...)
1badzx12r - I will definately let everyone know what I find out... at this rate, hopefully before I get old! I put some pics online here:
homegrownmedia.net/images/bikeacc0706/ ...but I have still not seen the bike in person (stuck in bed and now playing catch up at work!) so this is all I have to go on as well.
Captain - damage to me was not so bad considering... but I was missing my pants, tanktop (my jacket and gloves were conveniently bungied to the back of the bike - it was a real nice night out...), and skin - thankfully the skin has grown back. There's a few graphic pics at above link.
Thanks bigdogg - will do.
06BlueZX14 - I actually wanted to see about aftermarket abs or fitting the EU abs system onto my bike since I ride in well-below freezing temps during the winter - but that's another topic... speaking with so many people about this accident, opinions have been split... some think I should take the repaired bike because they will look over every inch of it VERY WELL for fear of future liability... Time will tell - still talking with the lawyer and won't be able to ride for another week or so anyway...
As for the doubters... well, to each his own. I'm telling it like it is and considering the circumstance surrounding the accident the only other place I could turn for potential answers was the wonderful world wide web... Believe what you want - it happened.
Regarding my posts on other boards... well, (apparently unlike you) not everyone has the time to browse forums all day and re-write their posts for each one. I'm looking for answers anywhere I can find them - so apologies if you had to read me twice. Along the same lines, if I was doing something stupid and wrecked I would not be wasting time on the forums giving my bike bad press!

He now is back at Suzuki... working on updating the "new" Hayabusa prototype... He figured they could sell a few more bikes if anyone bought the story, and maybe it would give them a few extra days to get the bugs out of the V-6. Since Fish has given him numerous days to think of his excuses and ideas... we probably will hear from him again... (and Fish, that is a stand up thing to do...- I personaly would have told him if he doesn't furnish some type of proof in 24 hours... he is gone.) Maybe it is VAK??!!! Maybe he lost it on one of his videos... and wanted to run it by us first before he tried selling it to Kawi... regardless, I have been extra careful when I am riding down a highway with only an 18 wheeler by me, for fear I may have the same thing happen. I also have removed all of the fluids from my motor since he stated that he saw them pouring from the motor. I for one think this has been a very informative and helpful thread!!! and as Vegas Dude says... this thread is useless without pictures!!!

Here's his Blog entry:
http://www.homegrownmedia.net/images/bikeacc0706/
quote: Bike accident - July 2006
NO - as a matter of fact, I wasn't doing anything stupid this day... Here's the story as given to the insurance company:
"I was traveling 55-60 mph on North 1&9 truck route from Newark to Jersey City - in Kearney - in the left (of two) lanes.
The road was mostly level - slight grade. I was not accelerating, braking, or changing gears. There was no debris, potholes, or other defects/obstacles in the road. The road was dry.
There was only one other vehicle - an 18 wheeler - going slightly slower (50-55) in the right lane. The driver of this truck is the only witness and his phone number is provided.
Just after I passed the truck, there was a metallic 'clank' - like two pieces of metal coming together forcefully with no rebound. It seemed like the bike's tire(s) stopped turning - there was no skid, no chance to recover - the bike and I went down immediately and violently.
After the bike and I stopped sliding I jumped up and moved to the center divider (closer to me) in case there were more vehicles behind. Now standing next to the bike - the crankcase looked destroyed and oil/fluids were pouring onto the roadway.
I am a very experienced rider and have never heard of anything remotely similar to this happening before. I believe a catastrophic malfunction inside the bike's engine caused this incident and it should be investigated thoroughly for the safety - and lives! - of other riders."

Well, the rad burnt the plastic lower, no surprise there, its THEE most vulnerable part on the bike.
The lower rad corners are completely exposed... first to touch down mechanicaly.
Noticed a flat front tire and that seems odd.
Very rarely will the tires go flat, even in the most severe accidents, and the is no apparent impact, just road rash.
Possibly, some fluids leaked onto both tires simultaneousely, like a blown rad hose, or something like....
Gotta wear gear ...
I usually don't wear leather pants, but always a good riding jacket, gloves and a snell/ dot helmet.
Dude, your hands man.... fuck at least wear gloves and helmet.
You can't even wipe your ass, or feed yourself with hands torn up like that....

Actually it looks like all of the fluids may have come from the small cover in front of the clutch under the fairing bubble that has been ground through. The flat front tire is odd however..I have never seen one go flat because of an accident unless the bikes front wheel slammed into something. Has the front rim been thoroughly checked? It almost sounds like the front wheel failed. The metallic clank describes possible break in the wheel followed by explosive decomression of the front tire which could cause the sudden loss of control.

Blue bikes seem to be crash prone...
+1 on the gloves and helmet. Holy crap! I put on gloves just to push the bike around in the garage (j/k)... your hands are your most valuable tools... PROTECT THEM at all costs. That road rash is going to hurt for a while.
Oh, and a Muzzys slider would have prevented a bunch of that plastic damage. Nice to see that the clutch cover never touched the ground though.
As for the cause, I'd be looking for a split/broken brake rotor too... we can see the right rotor fine, but there are no good photos of the left. Engine failure is BS... a bike isn't going to *immediately* go down with a rear tire lockup. If it truly went down that quickly without warning, something happened on the front wheel. Could even be a small piece of rebar (or other debris) that punctured the tire and proceeded to jam up the works... the old "monkey wrench in the spokes" affect.

Looking at the pictures ... Well i see no oil or coolant on either tire? The front tire flat is strange.... Does look to be a slide at 50 to 60 as he stated.... Looks like his oil may have came from the cover just in front of the clutch cover... It looks as the oil spill was after the wreck and not before....This is all second guessing on my part but to me it looks like some kind of front tire problem and not a bike problem.............Things i want to know > Does the motor still run? Does the front tire still turn? Does the rear tire still turn? Would like to see some pictures with the body panels off ... Please let us all know as you get more info from the dealer on what they think maybe the cause ... No other zx14 owners have posted any kind of problem like this..... Lets all hope it
is a tire problem or something in the road that caused this tire problem and not a bike problem .... We all need to know what the problem or cause is even if it was the riders falt..
We all know how good the front brakes are on the zx14 and would be very easy to lock the front tire with just two fingers.... Maybe the rider just over reacted ( very easy to do) and the front tire washed out.. Smokin...

Look closely at the front wheel. There is fluid pooled in the lip, but that could very easily be coolant from after the bike was uprighted...

I saw it too.... could be it rained before the picture was taken ?? Dew ? Coolant will leave an oily looking stain on the tire ( side walls) and i see none on the side walls ...

What is more likely, a strange equipment failure causing a sudden front wheel stoppage or rider error? I vote for rider error on the part of some squid that wants to get a new bike and LOTS of money from KMC.

Now shit, how is that a possibility?
He's going to file a sham lawsuit against KMC and KMC's attorneys would not have a PhD mechanical engineer as an expert witness look at the engine?
Could you fake that? NO
You guys are in denial and there is no possible logical explanation other than what he says.
The part about getting a $8,000 estimate without knowing the cause, well shit if it's under warrantee and there's a hole in the case, they just figure a brand new engine.

if there is $8000 damage someone must know what the damages are. 8000 dollar is not for fairing, exhaust, mirror as you see in pics, so whoever estimated that must know what other things broke inside the engine or transmission or the entire thing is bulshit and he just lost control the bike and fell doing stunt and he does not want to admit to it.
too many unanswer pieces.

That's possible, but why say anything at all? It was his first post here.
It's possible the insurance adjuster went to the salvage yard took a peek at the hole in the engine case and estimated a new engine?
It's got to be torn down at a dealership to know the cause, right?

we know for sure he went down, the problem is when you make a big remark like there is a hole in the engine you have to back it up better than this. the pics shows fluid on the ground which does not prove anything because the pics are not from location of the bike accident . why did not take a pic of the big hole in the engine. a lot of people read this forum and this can effect the sales and reputation zx14. or should i worry about next time if i ride mine this happen to me too.
remember zx12 came out first and they blew up the engine in test in germany and they said the break- in is 1500 miles for 12r and basically destroyed the reputation and sales of the bike.
