Axle torque spec? Could someone please tell me what the correct front and rear axle torque specs are? I'm changing tires this weekend and my new manual is still in transit.

94 ft/lb for each axle nut, and 15 ft lb for the front axle pinch bolts....
from the kawi service manual

Thank you. 30 yrs. ago, I was satisfied with whatever I could get on them with a 12" crescent wrench. These days I prefer to do it right.

My biggest issue with tightening axle nuts is the fear of having to remove it while "on the road" to do some sort of repair. The tools supplied in the tool kit aren't that great, and if it's really tight, it would laugh off that cheap little excuse for a wrench that they give you. I guess at that point, I'd just call for a tow...

I actually removed the rear wheel from my ZZR twice and a friends once using only the stuff in the took kit. However, the ZZR came with a center stand and this one doesn't. I guess I'll be calling the tow truck also.

I had to stand on my breaker bar to get the rear axle nut off for my first tire change. My guess is that the factory put it on with an impact. No flimsy tool kit wrench would have touched that. ____________

My rear axle nut broke loose at 90 ft. lb. but the front was less at about 65 ft.lb. So much for the factory doing it right.
My new Road Attacks are installed, chain lubed and adjusted, oil and filter changed and added some preload to the rear spring. It's just like getting a new bike all over again.

4503 on the odometer today when I started working on it. This is the 1st time I have touched the front. I did a chain adjustment at about 1600 but did not have a torque wrench so I used a black marker on the nut and axle and broke it loose enough to adjust the chain. I realigned the marks and installed a new cotter pin. Since I didn't completely remove the nut from the axle or disturb any of the inner assembly I reasonably assume that the torque value would be the same.

Just a little heads up.
Make sure it is real tight, I didn't get out the torque wrench,
but used an 18" long wrench to tighten it up real good. And still bent the left axle adjuster at the track the other night!!! ____________ Texas Mile 200.256mph - Oct. 2007 (Update 202.577mph Oct 2008) NOS assisted ECTA Ohio Mile 195.132mph TexasMile 2012 199.9 mph all motor!
