heat issues
after having my 14 for a week now I have a few regrets about my purchase.First and most annoying is that my left leg gets cooked after a while.You cannot wear anything but calf high boots on this thing or your flesh is gonna cook.Right side is not too much better.I live in FL. and its been in the upper 90's here lately,but my ZRX and ZX9 never did this to me.Is this normal,or is my bike having a problem??Temp gauge stays about one bar from top most of the time.After about 30 miles of riding I can't take the heat on my leg anymore and go home.Even highway riding I get hot feet after a bit of time.seems like the rad dumps warm air right on the left foot and the pipes under the pegs give off a LOT of heat.
Second issue is the low rpm performance of this bike.Under 6000rpm there's not much.Why should I have to get a TRE to fix this and lose my digital gear indicator??
sorry for the rant,but I needed to vent(literally-LOL).
on the plus side,the motor is so smooth and vibe free.I can actually use the mirrors.Handling is great and it feels as light as my ZX9 and much more stable.I guess this is just not a warm weather bike.

Mine runs much cooler now that its got 1000+ miles on it .... Syn oil helps to bring temps down a little ....I'm also in FL and in the heat of the day it runs two bars while moving and 3 bars at stop lights... I have no heat in my feet but it does get pretty hot at my knees, I just need to remember to move my legs out from the grills and the heat is no more.. I do have a muzzy pipe and that may help the heat on your feet ...
Now on to the low end power > check my sig line, low end power is not a problem..I have no TRE and my flies are in place ...I feel that a lot of people confuse smooth power out put for a lack of power.... Roll on races with busa have proved to me that the low end is just fine ,seeing that i allway pull them from the start....Smokin..
P/S i see you have a zrx , i also have a 2005 zrx1200 ... Are you a member of the zrxoa?

Had a ZRX1200(ZRXOA member since 2000) and a ZX9,sold both for the 14.Thanks for the reply.I think with some more break in and going to syn I will be fine.I think I will also go with the area p carbon slip-ons just to get rid of those heat inducing cat cons.Area p says slip ons don't need a PC3,but if I do they have a file for it.

Another ZRXOA guy here. I loved my 02 ZRX for 3 years (left it bone stock, but I don't know how I did it), but sold it to get the 14.
1. The heat "issue": I just finished a 100+ mile ride this morning that started at about 87 degrees and ended at 97degrees. I agree that getting some miles on it will result in the bike running cooler (I now have 1100). At speed, it was running 3-4 bars, and in stop and go traffic for 10 minutes, it briefly hit 5 bars when stopped at a red light. The heat on my legs is just not all that noticable.
2. Lack of low-speed power: IMHO, overblown. Yeah, in the first 4 gears at very low rpms, the 14 doesn't pull like the ZRX.. However, by 4K, the 14 is making more torque on the dyno in 5th gear than my ZRX made at peak. By 6200 rpm, my 14 is making the same HP that the ZRX made at the peak and where the ZRX started to fall on its face, the 14 just keeps pulling!
Both great bikes for what they are, but I could only have 1.

pull the secondary throttle plates, install Brocks pipe, and pc3 with his map.
Cooler operating temps... especialy around the ankles, and gobs of bottom torque to compliment the extra 25 HP at redline.
Whole different animal.... initally I was aking myself why i didn't geta literbike....
well now i am very happy I didn't.

My bike ran hotter before i removed my secondary throttle plates but now it's cool about 1bar from half at stoplights and half at cruise,
Not to mention a ton of power on demand without the plates!

My 14 was running way too hot as well, cooking my legs just as you described.
Now at 1100 miles I have installed a four-into-one TiForce system and PC3, the bike is transformed, it runs much cooler. Part of the problem could be the standard exhaust Cat' which must run really hot to work effectively, maybe more miles helps, as suggested by others, although I can't really fathom out why that should be.

Has anyone swapped out the coolant for wetter, ICE, or any other products?
I've got some stuff, I just haven't gotten off my dead ass and gotten it done yet.

Now after 8K miles on mine with a full system, it runs much cooler and there's much less heat on the rider...not perfect but way better than it was on delivery. Also running water and redline with Amzoil race oil...so there's probably some nominal improvements from there as well.

Engine Ice or Redline water wetter will help bring down the temps a little
