Backfiring on decel

Kind of irritating so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

Bike is setup with Area P Slipons
PC III USB w/slipon map

I've blocked off the KCA Valve (fat grey tube under the airbox)
Still has secondary flys.

When I decelerate it pops a good bit but will backfire pretty loudly about every other downshift.
Has anyone else encountered this?
Does the Fly removal seem to help?

This bike did it when it was bone stock too, except it was harder to hear it coming through the stock exhaust.

Any (constructive) suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
Jack

Brocks Gen 3, TRE, and Brocks map for this combo, with the Kleen valve hose plugged. Mine does the same thing...mild popping on decel and a larger backfire from time to time. Seems to be the worst when decel is from a higher RPM such as when im out canyone carving.

Got the same setup as suicycle cept now the flies are out and the TRE has been removed.
With TRE is same as flies removed as far as backfiring is concerned. Very mild popping on decel unless I chop the throttle (or close it significantly) from 5K+ rpm. Then I get a nice single backfire about 80% of the time followed by the mild popping until I get back on the throttle. I'm no expert, but I'm thinking that, with all the pipe connections for the aftermarket exhaust and no sealing there is a chance for leakage inflow during a decel. Chop the throttle and it may yield a localized pressure within the exhaust which is lower than ambient (i'm guessing). The bike goes through an immediate rich state when the throttle is closed. The additional air then ignites if the exhaust is hot, like from a high rpm decel, and you get the backfire. Problem may slowly self-correct as the exhaust seals itself over time. If not, then you got yourself another way to get attention and scare the bejebbers out of bicyclists and joggers.

Yep, that's what I was thinking also. I had an old Honda 350 four that only backfired if the head pipes came loose (which was about every 6 months).

I was wondering if the full systems were experiencing this also. The Brock Gen3 is a full system right?

I had a guy in a PT Cruiser following me too closely in traffic today on the way home from work. After a couple of healthy back fires he started allowing much more space between us.
Maybe Kaw did this intenionally as a safety measure?

The Gen 3 is a full 4+2+1 system. Headers are separate from the collector, which are separate from the mid-pipe, which is separate from the can. All held together by springs. Muzzy setup is similar. Plenty of sources for inflow during a decel. Doesn't take much at all. I'm thinking overtime there might be some soot buildup which tends to seal it up better.

tighten the manifold bolts?
My stock exhaust had some very loose nutz,

They should be checked periodically no matter what the exhaust.
they loosen over time from all the heat cycles

Exactly my plan for the weekend.
I've found a bunch of loose hardware on this bike. 4 of the fairing screws were gone before I even got the bike home.

Brock (per the instructions) advised using hi-temp silicone on all the joints. Mine only pops every once in a while.

I thought the 14 had a clean air system which injects air into the exhaust ports to burn any remaining fuel, kinder to the catalyst too.
When an aftermarket system is fitted this could cause popping, just like an air leak would.

My 14 did it stock, it was barely noticable with the stock ex, now with the ap ex you can realy hear it, it sounds pretty kool.In my opinion it seens to be injector related,i have used my infered temp gun on the down tubes and got pretty close readings on three but one was way higher than the others.

The KLEEN air system should be blocked when you install an aftermarket exhaust. Both Brock and Muzzy supply plugs. You'll still get the backfire. I don't think its anything to worry about.

Any pics/threads on the quickest way to block/remove the KCA system?

I found a ton of stuff loose on my bike too when i had it all apart for the Gen3 and PC. I could not believe all the loose parts. Some were so sracastic it was quite obvious my dealer didn't check/tighten much of anything.
