Pushed by a car today!!!He Hit Me!!!! I was splitting lanes on PCH pretty slow when this bastard in a camry started to make a right without
looking, and on his phone, and no signal. He moved back left for a second and I thought he was correcting and staying put. I proceeded to go around him slowly, when he went right again without looking, into me. He hit the bike and my leg and shook me, then procceded to shove me into the car on my right. My bike was hooked on his mirror so I couldn't throttle away. Honking and punching his window (with the left) he finnaly pulled left again and I was free. I was so angry I kicked his mirror off.
Probably not right, but i was really pissed off!!!!! He made a quick turn and fled. I pulled over to get my bearing and see the bike, but amazingly only my mirror got a minor scratch.
I then went after him on Latigo Canyon Rd. when I see 4 highway patrol cars blocking the road and him driving away. I thought he told them I kicked his mirror, but why so many cops? I pulled up to the first officer and he proceeded to tell me that a movie chase scene was being filmed and only one car at a time could pass. I pointed to the camry driving away and told the cop the story. He called on his radio to the highway patrol blocking traffic from the other side and had him pulled over, and gave him a (Wet) wreckless driving ticket. He also had a .09 B.A.C. and got arrested.
Just thought I'd vent about it.

Drunk driving....they should lock him up and throw away the keys...lucky it wasn't worse than it was...I saw a kid get hit by a car on Friday night, while attempting to cross on a red to catch his bus...he died in the hospital only hours later...the driver wasn't speeding or drinking; he was in control of the vehicle when the impact, at only 30 miles an hour, left the victim dead.

Is lane splitting legal in Cal???
Not up here, fast way to get killed.
Lane splitting is a great way to beat traffic Many people commute on bikes purely for the splitting. A 90 minute [one way] commute can turn into a 60 minute commute without ever exceeding posted speed limits. Cage drivers are used to it and many will even make an effort to give you more room. As with everything in motorcycling, your judgement will play a big factor in your life expectancy.

Lane splitting may be legal, but you take your chances.........personally, I would never do it. Car vs. bike............hmmmmmmmmmmm

I split almost every time I ride, but the lane belongs to the vehicle ahead......so it is a risk and diminished rights.....
A lot of people do actually give you some room when they see you in the mirror. What sucks is that some riders think the OWN the road and HAVE to be let by. They will rev or honk and it just makes it bad for us all - so cut it out dammit.

I got squeeezed out of a lane by some douchebag cager on Saturday too...kicked his door and made my mark on the fucker...even after honking at the SOB, he played dumb and just continnued on to his zigzag path to nowhere....probably drunk as a skunk...we have a lot of drunk drivers here in Quebec...I'd love to give them a taste of their own medicine one day...
There's a proposal before the Fed's right now that would enact legislation to make road racing resulting in death, punishable by life in prison..so I wonder what would happen if you were a drunk road racer and you killed someone...life and a half in prison?
There were a few deaths in Toronto recently (road racers) which prompted this new proposed legislation...and this weekend, there were 2 more as a result of the same thing in Edmonton, Alberta...near Dubious's area...they get a lotta drunk drivers there too... ____________

Here in VA - splitting lanes is quite dangerous - as the NUTS here don't respect bikes as much as the FRUITCAKES in CA. I do miss living in San Diego - great weather, people respect us motorcyclists (they only wish they had one!!!).

Thanks for the responses, I was pretty shaken up last night when i typed this thread. Today I'm more upset, and evaluating my role and what I could do better. Even though he was drunk, I watch every car I pass and make mental notes so I don't repeat my mistakes.

Many times, whether on a bike or in a vehicle, you are at the mercy of the other driver...and in a few cases, little can be done to avoid an accident. All you can do is be alert and try to stay away from trouble....The signs I always look for are the driver's head -- where is he looking....if he's looking in the rearview or to one side or another, dead giveaway. In fact, that's about the only thing I look for all the time...but there are those who just don't look at all before they do anything...and that's when things go awry. If you have to watch every car and wonder about every single driver to the right left and behind you...you have to evaluate whether it's even worth riding. I try to stay out of the city and traffic and usually ride on roads where traffic is limited, but obviously it's not always like that...just be thankful you didn't do worse...

I was in LA a few weeks ago (not on the bike - family holiday) and I saw lots of riders lane splitting. All I can say for the riders that do this on a consistant basis, you have a lot more courage/bigger balls than I do!
There is so much traffic on the interstates, even if you survived the initial fall from someone hitting you, you would be run over by 99 cars before the other vehicles around you stopped........if they stopped at all.
It made me pretty glad to live where I do as I don't think I would have a bike if I had to cope with the kind of traffic there is in southern California (population of California is GREATER than all of Canada together!

If you live in California...you WILL split lanes. It's just too easy to go in between cars when the fuckin' traffic is at a crawl/stop. Just gotta watch out when there are empty spaces and cars are moving. Expect the dumbfuck to change lanes...it's gonna happen. Thankfully, I've been fortunate to have been going slow enough to get on the brakes, or had enough room and a powerful enough bike in the 12 to throttle away from the dumbasses.
Courteous is is courteous does. Cagers that move and give me space...they get the thank you peace sign. Cagers that squeeze me on purpose...they get their mirror moved out of the way. Cagers that talk shit to me...they get a broken mirror. :-/
Knock on wood nothing like HotPotato's story has ever happened to me.

I've run up on a couple of nuts that tried to suqeeze me out, but usually the other driver will see what's going on and make room. Ran up on two nuts next to each other once, and ended up elbowing a mirror.
About the only thing you can do, H. is wait a minute when you spot a dubious driver, staying on his tail to observe his driving, and only making the pass when there is an escape route in the other lane.
Even then, there's always going to be a moment when your life depends on at least one of two different people paying attention

The law is that you may go 15mph faster than the speed of traffic, without exceeding the speed limit.
I was going about 45, and traffic was about 40, it's hard to factor in logic of a drunken person. I think I'm a great rider, but it was just too unpredictable. That's why I don't ride in traffic on holiday's.
