Wind Screen?

Great site. This seems to be the best for the 14 that I have found. Anyway got a question about the wind screen. I currently ride an 04 busa and 05 Gixxer 1K. For long distance touring I love the stock busa screen that allows smooth air to hit my chest and keeps my head in the quiet air above. My Gix screen turns up a little higher making the air a little more turbulent. I sat on a 14 the other day and absolutely love the fit. The bike felt great, but I noticed the screen would funnel the wind much higher than I tend to prefer. I'm wondering about the quality of wind that hits your helmet area. Just for reference I'm 6' 1.

Again, I'm liking the 14 a lot, but since I tour on my scooters air flow is a major concern for me.

Thanks

Welcome!

Last I heard, there were several different aftermarket ones in the making for US customers. I believe there is at least one in production for the UK and/or other countries in Europe.

I had a Busa till last season....wind on the 14 and the Busa are similar but the 14 is a bit higher towards the head as you suspected...though not uncomfortable. My 10 has better wind stop than any SS or ST bike I've owned...14's isn't quite as good (90%), but not unpleasent either. I'm 6'2"

I tour an average of 350 miles each day 2X a week....I have ZERO issue with the 14; it has great brakes, power and you can't compare the ride or suspension to the Busa, 10 or the K5...it's very smooth...almost too much so. For ST riding, you can't beat it. I had an 04 FJR, and it was harsh by comparison to the 14...try and ride one...it'll blow you away...but the power delivery with the secondary butterflies in just isn't there...they need to be removed and when that's done...it pulls harder than a Busa all over the band. Some say it doesn't hande the tight turns as well as the Busa...I don't agree...I've had my knees draggin a few times in tight turns with no kickback from the bike. The suspension is well settled in the turns and doesn't upset easily at all.

I have/had the bikes you have, and the 14 is by far the best ST bike of them. You will love it. BTW, I'm 6'1", also.

Im 6'3 and the wind hits right in my face shield if I sit upright. The room of the seat allows you to ride up on the tank or slide back quite aways. Sitting back you can tuck under the wind or you can sit up comfortable and let the wind hit you in the face, under 120 mph I don't notice the wind anyway. I just got back from 1000 miles in 2 days and the only complaint I had was my sore wrist, need a throttle meister. Bike was as smooth as glass just a slight vibration in the throttle grip but having to squeese and hold on to it the whole time made the vibration more noticable.

We were cruising at between 90 and 100 mph for hours on the 5 FWY.

The bike is amazing, get one.....hurry! Feel what others are talking about, you won't be disappointed!

FBA 350 miles a day? How many miles you got on that bike?

I'm only up to 6500. Bought mine in April.

I'm only 5'11", so I guess no opinion to give with regards to wind. However, I like the 14 a whole lot better than my '99 busa. I feel I can control it better in turns (just a personal opinion) and I enjoy longer rides with the 14 riding position. However all of these facts are to each riders riding skill level,
and the situations they put the bike in, as well as the riders build. I love canyons, high speed highways, and an occasional drag. Many in here drag more than I do, I love consistant high speed!

Forgot to mention wheelies dude...:P
Speaking of which...how does she come down when you pop it and stay on it...hard or gentle? I don't do much more than a bump up a foot or so in 1st or 2nd once in a while...so I'm not an expert on that...just curious. I know the Busa was tougher to land than the 1000's or 600's

Sounds exactly like my style of riding. Long distance touring at good speeds, aggressive twisties and some "unofficial" street racing.

Thanks to all for the feedback. Now for that test ride next week.

you can ride mine , where do you live? You need to ride one that's broken in, up around 6000 - 9500 rpm, thats the ticket.

Bone stock except for losing the rear fender and she will still pull ur arms off (although you kinda get used to it in about 2 weeks), pipe and PC soon to come.

A great offer!!! But if your name is an indicator of location I don't think Texas is close enough, but sincerely appreciate the gesture. From reading this forum I fully understand the 6K+ excitement. And also from what I read here, if I do get one the flies will be out as quickly as possible.

I thought it was just me. She felt "space shuttle" fast when I first started riding her after years on my XX, but now not so fast. Mind you, when I launch and look in the rearview 3 or 4 seconds later, things are WAAYYYYYY back there, so she IS fast as hell, I've just gotten used to the speed and performance I guess. Maybe I need to pull the flies and give myself some new shock and awe LOL!

My Two Brothers just arrived at home, but I'm still at work. Damn. Maybe I'll try to get off early so I can go install em LOL

The problem is: the mind will adapt to most anything. You only get that "first time" thrill for a short while. However, rest assured, it's still stinky fast.

Just looked at your location, sweeper... we're pretty close. I generally shy away from letting other people ride my bike, but your riding style sounds pretty close to mine, and with your previous (existing) bikes, you should definitely know how to handle power.

So, if you can't work out that test ride at your dealer, give me a shout... I live in Crowley, and my bike is very much "broken in".

From what I've seen/heard, Irving and Granbury seem to have the best prices around. I bought mine in Denton for a pretty good price, but I'm not sure if they are as flexible as the other two these days. If you are interested in Denton, I know and ride with the owner and can get you in touch with their GM pretty easily.

Wheelies come down smooth if I monitor my RPMs. I don't clutch wheelie, it will kill your clutch faster
than hell. I got my custom exhaust fitted last night, and my power commander is here monday, I get my braided brake lines on monday, and 1 week from monday my exhaust comes back from powdercoating and I go to get custom dyno-tuned. I made my fender eliminator last night, and I can't
wait 1 1/2 weeks for all of this. Like a kid on christmas.
Busa I need to learn how to post photos. Wait till you see my exhaust, I am the prototype so there is no other pipes like these.

Dang Sweeper if Texas wasnt so damm big I would suggest you come over to Louisiana. I am West Central and my dealer has a Blue one tagged at 10.5. I also have its mate I got from the same dealer same or mebby little better price. You could try mine on for size to make sure. Was through your neck of the woods the otherday, Did a week of Rockies in Colorado on the 14, and it performed flawlessly. Gotta say this, it was hotter than Hell in DFW when we came through......TB

Thanks for the offer. And yes, we are relatively neighbors. I work at the old Carswell (NAS JRB now). I'll see how the ride goes and let you know. Maybe we could hook up some time for riding. I work rotating shifts and tend to ride alone most of the time due to schedules. Make trips to Ark with the TSBA when I can.

As far as dealers go I bought the Gixxer at Granbury. They usually have good prices and easy to deal with.
