Rear Brake Pads

With the rear brakes making noise on our 14's, has anyone changed the OEM pads to another brand? If so, I'd like to know your thoughts and the brand used. Thanks in advance

My pads (front or rear) have never made a noise, but I'm interested in the people's answers on this question too - I'd like the rear to have a little more bite than the stock pads.

I recall an earlier post, can't recall if it was on this site or not, but one owner advised that the dealer took the rear pads off, sanded them and the rotor to no avail.

Yes, the topic of noisy brakes have been brought up here before, but sanding will only fix a noisy pad if they are contaminated with something, and even then, you'd have to remove quite a bit of material to remove that contamination. "Sanding" a new rotor will do absolutely nothing that simply spraying with brake cleaner wouldn't do. If your brakes got glazed, they would also make noise, but I doubt anybody runs that hard on a brand new bike to glaze the pads.

Do you suspect that your brake pads were contaminated with something? Overspray from chain lube (that would be quite an overspray job), or polishes would cause a problem, but even then you'd have to get a decent quantity on there to cause a problem. I occasionally get a tiny bit of "quick wash" type of cleaner (contains some wax) on my front rotors when I'm cleaning the front fender, but that's never caused any noise.

If it's made the noise since it was new, I'd wonder if maybe there was a bad batch of pads installed on some bikes at the factory. Several people have noisy brakes, but many others do not... who knows, that may be the next recall.

With about 500 miles on the bike I rode with a group of guys on a 40 mile ride with a lot of turns and thats when it started. I would like to think that they didnt get glazed that fast. I'm the type that usually gets double the miles out of a set of pads that others due, I'm just really easy on brakes. First time I've had this issue and believe me I've had a ton of bikes. I'll just wait to see if anyone else weighs in on the issue. Thanks!

I was riding twistys and thought I'd try using the rear brake to set the suspension pre-diving into the turn. Thought it might help with entry speed. what happened was even when I wasn't trying to use the rear my foot was riding it anyway and by the time I got down the 7 miles of mountain it was squeeking bad, went away after about 200 miles.

My fronts squeek most of the time during long rides but it goes away when the brakes get cooler. My rears dont squeek anymore during normal riding but I dont use em that much, maybe 70/30 front rear.

My front brakes began to squeek only at very low speed braking. It began at about 1000 miles. Ive been trying to "wear the noise out" through application of different pressure breaking....to no avail. No noise coming down from speed...only very slow control breaking.Very embarrassing to pull up on my brand new 14 and the last 3 ft of my stop squeels.Ill give it another 1000 miles then Im bringing it back to the dealer to fix. Ill be watching this thread closely for a fix.

My rear brake has a sensor that tells it when to shriek. It only does it when its gonna maximize my embarassment. Took the pads off. They aren't contaminated or glazed. But
every now and then the rear brake will make my spine cringe in pain. So the rear brake has very little feel, very little stopping power, and shrieks like a banjee when it wants to. Only issue I have with the 14.
