You know, I've got a question. Why do these dudes leave one leg to flail about? Does that really "help" at all? I have beaten plenty of guys at the strip with both my feet on the pegs. Wtf?

Shane...I can answer that for you!!!
I use to put my feet on the pegs ASAP...But after time when I became more aggressive in DragRacing, the G-Force and your leaning forward body possition prevents you from getting both legs up at the same time during a hard launch...So, for foot shifting I pick the left leg up shift into 2nd and when Im comfortable I pick the right leg up, sometime not until I shift into 3rd!!!...Only a few guys can get both legs up, but I cant...By the way the bigger you are in size and or weight the harder it is to get your legs up, so leaving that right leg out will help for that 1st to 2nd gear shift...
That's 1 reason for an airshifter, the other is to shift without getting out of the throttle!!!

I couldn't tell what started it,but I do know lifting your foot under acceleration at my weight and height(6'5"/260)requires a strong pull on the bars which can upset the front end.

It looks to me like the leg out, exacerbated the problem. The weight of that leg moving back and forth could cause a harmonic of its own exacerbating the oscillation of the bikes front end also it makes it difficult for the rider to dampen the steering head oscillations. In the end the leg did help him recover, but it might not have gotten that bad if he had both feet planted on the pegs.
I got pissed at some beaners backing down and across the street near a corner while delivering phone books. I snapped the throttle wide and did an unintended wheelie at about 4000 rpm and when it came down, leaned over a bit, I had a nice head shake that took a whole lot of effort to stop.

Watching the video a few times, I see why the tank slapper occured...The rider was leaning to the left side of the 14 causing the uneven pressure on the bars and when he wheelied the on the shift into 2nd the wheel touched down crooked causing the wobble!!!...The foot out and touching down slidding on the strip as you saw the smoke coming from his boot actually saved him!!!
Good save!!!

I'm lucky that i can get both feet up before the one two shift without unsetting the bike... Seems to work for me ... Even on my other bike with an air shifter i get both feet on the pegs right away... Try dragging your feet for 1320 feet , you will feel you legs lifting with the air speed .... That's MPH you are killing .... I worry about tank slappers but the zx14 seems not to do that....But i think i'll get a damper anyway just in case.... Smokin..
