Burning Oil? Had my oil change at 600 mi and at 1,000 mi couldn't find any level in the window. I found I needed to add half a quart to bring levels into the midway mark. Is this common? I don't run it too hard.

Haven't heard of that. Mine has stayed the same. Are you sure the bike's level. Doesn't take much to be off center to do this........

Flyboy,
I thought the same exact thing happened to me.
Last May while I was riding in NC, (last leg of the trip) I had the bike on the center stand and I was down half a qt. I was freaking a bit, with synthetic oil in there I did not want to add regular oil on the road. I figured I was within the limits of the oil so I'll check her out when I get home. When I got home I put the 14 on the center stand in the exact place I changed the oil. I'll be dammed it was full. Thank God I did not full her up on the road.
Point is the engine is very sensitive to grades. Even with a center stand!! I don't know how the hell you guys work without one.
I'll bet your fine, DO NOT ADD OIL UNLESS YOUR SURE THE 14 IS BURNING IT.
Just for the record I changed the oil yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the oil still had color. Even after 5000 miles Amsoil 20W-50 did very well, and yes it was full.
Note it does appear that as oil ages the garbage in the oil does in fact allow the engine heat up slightly more than when the oil was new.

That would be cool!
Imagine a 1352 cc 2 stroke, inline 4 making about 400 RWHP!
LOL
My CR500AF makes 144 RWHP/ liter ! single cyl.
The GP500 bikes made like 440HP/ liter ! 4cyl.

This sounds alittle on the hillbilly side but you could go buy a cheapo bubble level in a dollar store and pirate the bubble out of it. Mount it on the bike and everytime you check the oil you can look at the bubble and see if the bike is straight up and down.

And I always put mine in a sportchock to keep it perfectly vertical, then get the tires level with a pitbull.
