MIne doesn't touch till I spin the filter half off.
I wouldn't want it rubbing.

Lemme play devil's avocate for a second - with all due respect. If the filter hits the pipe 1/2 way off, how is filter removal affected?
I am planning on getting the Street meg from Brock. Does the temp of the head pipes exceed the temp the oil filter can handle? Do the head pipes make oil changes difficult? I thought I read in a different thread the Gen 3 canister and the street meg megaphone were interchangable. If this is the case, are the head pipes the same?
I havent heard of anyone saying there Gen 3 system hits the filter.

Head pipes are same.
It just rubs slightly when the base (wider) spins past the tube.

I should have never said anything cause some dork will blow it out of proportion.
Its not a problem for anyone who can thread a nut and bolt without cross threading it!

Don't play devils advocate, unless you want to play with the devil.

The next time the exhaust comes off for more mods mine will get adjusted, as it is, it does not touch when operating.
I run my bike with the filter on ALL the way

Black magic, try spinning the header tube a little, you'll have to remove the collectors and mid pipe, once you have clearance, put the rest back on it.
You could slip a folded rag or something between the filter and tube to ensure the clearance is not lost while slipping the rest back together.
It will fit up.

I don't think heat transferred from the header to the filter is doing the oil temperature any good. You ought to adjust this a.s.a.p.

I have the same problem with my Gen 3 system. I had the 004 oil filter and switching to the 002 to see if that will give me alittle more room. I just dempled the edge of the old oil filter with a rubber hammer as i spun it off....came right off.

Interesting. I just installed the Gen 3 StreetSmart. I have absolutely no problem. I checked
the oil filter removal and put a wrench on before I buttoned the fairings back up. Works just fine. You can make slight adjustments to the headers during the install before you tighten everything up. If the headers are the same as the StreetSmart then my experience says that there is no interference with the filter.

I just ordered the Street Meg. Can't visualize this. Do headers have to come off to change filter?

Seeing the zx14 does not have an oil cooler i don't want the header anywhere near the oil filter ..My Muzzy is a mile from the filter ....A pipe that close can't be a good thing...

Guys,
Due to our oversized tube design and the placement of the ZX-14 oil filter, clearance is VERY close. But, the exhaust should not touch the filter. You only need about 1/16th of an inch clearance because air is a fantastic insulator. The systems are a slip-together design; this also means that they can be slipped away from the filter by simply loosening and pushing the mounting bracket or hanger towards the front of the bike and re-tightening. The Busas have been this close for years with no ill effects.

Filter removal is the same as a Busa. Remove the same rear mounting bolt and push the system down/forward to allow clearance to remove/install a new filter.

Remember, we could make a smaller tube system to remove such problems from your world....but you bike would be MUCH SLOWER!

All of our systems are checked on a jig/fixture to assure proper fitment. This means that no system is allowed to leave the manufacturing facility if it does not fit correctly. A slight adjustment is all that is required.

Rapitor is right about minor adjustment before you tighten everything up.
I have the street meg no problems getting oil filter on or off, also the bike runs a bit cooler now. It also gets better gas milege at steady state cruse with the new improved drivability map. Just make sure you have both hands on the bars if you got it pined after 7000rpm in any gear.
Thanks Brock
