Loss of Clutch reservoir level ????

So i was Out for a hard ride well perhaps not to you guys but lots of clutching etc .I noticed a smell of Brake fluid wafting up into my helmet on some clutch applications.......... The reservoir has been at the top full mark since i got my bike 2500km ago after this ride it was down to the lowest mark , and no indications of loss of oil anywhere to be found............. ?????????

I would say you got a leak somewhere. Could be inside the cover on the slave cylinder.

Northmedic, There are a couple places to check first would be the banjo bolts. Then the bleeder lines (2). Note you want them snug not too tight.

You say that you smell fluid, so I'm guessing there may be leaking on your pipes. Maybe I'm funny like that, but I don't smell anything when I take a whif of the DOT4 ;^).

If your fluid runs out, fill it up and in order to build pressure back into the system the banjo bolt at the top can be used as a bleeder. NOTE DOT4 will go everywhere so protect your paint.

Finally the best news, Every ZX-14 I've seen has a 1/2 full reservoir. The first thing I did was fill ALL FLUIDS. Both brake and Clutch fluid reservoirs are 1/2 full from factory and I can't figure why. If yours is 1/2 full your no different than anyone else and I doubt you have a leak.

Just to add a little piece - Has anyone noticed that the clutch fluid is changing color faster than the brake fluid - yes, I do use the clutch more than the brake - I only have 400 miles on the bike.

Both of mine are currently a neat brownish color. After my trip in Late July I'm planning a fork oil change and I'll bleed the brakes and clutch replacing 100% of the DOT4.

I noticed my clutch fluid got darker quite quickly... around 1000km I noticed it.
Why? heat one would think, but I would imagine my brakes get much hotter than the clutch slave!

Aby theories?

I was warned by people here in FL about leavingg the bike parked in the sun for long periods. Folks suggested I put wristbands around the reservoirs to keep the sun off.

After the clutch fluid looked as though it may be darkening (top part of fluid browning), I went to Sports Authority and bought a pair of black Nikie wrist bands. LoL I don't know if they'll help...

I will buy anodized aluminum resevoirs when they make one for the clutch.
There are some out for the brakes on other bikes, that I know i could make fit.

The only time mine see's sun is when I'm riding it, otherwise its in the garage.
