Great Sound
I more than happy to bitch if I think I have been wronged so it is only fair if I speak up when treated well or if I find a good product.
Awhile ago I asked on a thread about helmet noise and options. Some mentioned Ear plugs, but FBA mentioned a set of Shure ear buds.
I checked them out, but $499.00 US.... ouch. Recently I spoke with FBA and he mentioned a company in Cincinati selling the Westone um2s (Equal in sound quality to the Shure).
I bit the bullet and ordered them.
Well today they arrived... MY F***ING God!!! I put them in and instantly silence, wonderful silence (I have two boys under 6)... then I went for a 4 Hour boot.
With them in I couldn't even hear my bike running... and that was without turning on the tunes.
When I did turn on the music, the sound quality was remakable, equivlent to my over priced home system (without pissing off the neighbours).
At 180+ a wee bit of wind noise, but I never had to turn up the tunes.
I was out for over 4 hours tonight, and other than the great sound, I didn't know they were in there, the comfort was great and they never moved or shifted.
The company I ordered them from was great, the owner called me to confirm shipping info and sent me emails to let me know when shipped etc.
Mike even put a very accurate Customs sticker (I'm in Canada) accurately reflecting the $19.00 I paid for them.. lol, so no hassle from Mr. Harper for Tax etc.
I sent mike an eamil tonight thanking him for the service and the awsome product.
I mentioned to him the way I was refered to him.
He told me he had just got a large shipment of UM2s, and for Bikeland members he'll do a special price of $259.00 (on his site at 299.00)
Yea at $259.00 still pricey, but I did the Best Buy $79.00 ones... Craaaappppp, compared to these.
So if you are interested in Amazing sound, -20 db sound / noise reduction and incredible comfort... deez is da ting.
Thanks FBA, I will never doubt you again lol...

A while back we had a post with poll question asking if we rode with helmets etc... It was overwhelming that most did wear helmets. It was also talked about on the stupidity of not wearing them. I am one that is about 40/60 with wearing a helmet. I wear it about 40% of the time. Most of my riding is in a small town or on rural roads during the day. Most of the time at night I wear a helmet due to animals and bugs. Most of my reasoning is that I enjoy riding without it so much more than with it. I also am not one to push the limits of the bike in corners or top speed. Actually, when I wear a helmet I am more prone to pushing the limits... hence I probably ride "safer" when not wearing it. I realize that if I were to crash, I would want to throw a helmet on as fast as possible, but if I knew I was going to crash I probably would rather be in my F-350 also. Just by riding a bike we are taking a chance with getting injured more than in a car. To each his own as they say... I realize there are people's personal preferances and ideals... with that being said, another reason that I like not having a helmet on is so I can hear what is going on around me, and so I can see around me a lot better. My point... I can't imagine not only having ear plugs in so I couldn't hear the motor of my own bike... but more important that I would have music playing like that. I am not cutting anyone... I am sure that you all feel comfortable with the music... but that really seems like more of a risk than anything on a bike. I don't intend to insinuate that anyone who has music playing is not as "safe" as I am, I just wanted to share another point of view. I would imagine depending on where you ride it makes a big difference. I try to stay off of freeways also just because of the blind drivers that are out there. I for one don't ever get bored while riding, and therefore don't want music playing, but I also haven't taken a 500 mile ride in many years. Now when it comes to ear plugs with the kids... that is something I could try.. lol Anyway, just the thoughts that came up when I read this post. Not intending to get this thread put into the Smack Down or anything! I guess I was just wondering what others felt/thought?

Wow, where do I start.
Not wearing a helmet???? I have so much to say on that topic... just ask Gary BUSEY one of the most vocal anti-helmet law people out here until!!!!
Now, he wears a lid.
Other than on the Track, each and every time I've written off a bike I've been within 5 miles of home, just driving along, no excessive speed, no music, nada... There is a difference between a collision and an accident, one is avoidable, the other isn't.
A Helmet is like Body Armour, you don't need it 'till it's too late, it's better to wipe of sweat than blood. (Like a Good set of leathers Vs. T-shirt and Shorts)
As for noise... I see no reason to be getting off my bike and have my ears ringing for a few hours... Only one set of ear drums, and thier warranty is over.
As for tunes... If I'm out sometimes they are on, sometimes they are off, depends on where I'm at and what I'm doing... all controllable with my Air clicker, velcro'd to my handle bars with ipod in my pocket.
I never used to even consider Music while riding, and I will admit that if I am out hauling, no tunes, but for long runs, yea, kinda nice.
I see you points, but just as some wear helmets, leather jackets, proper foot wear and other wear SFA.... It's all about Risk Management, "What is percievable is preventable"
Be safe man, I have walked away from 100 MPH + dumps on the Track, and I thank GOD for Bell, Shoei, and Simpson (some of my best friends as up becomes down becomes up etc etc etc.)
Later, keep the painted side up, and watch out for those F350s

I use my UM2's and iPOD all the time and I don't hear anything except the music...it allows me to focus on the riding and pay more attention to the roads...though some would disagree, it works for me. Hearing a car or a car horn? Fuck, if I have to depend on that to avoid a collision...I'm in trouble, very big trouble. No, I would prefer to use my heightened sense of view...I use my mirrors and my peripheral vision...and that's the safest thing to do. I don't care about the noise from the bike...I can feel the exhaust rumble and growl. I guess my point is, hearing what's around me isn't consequential but rather, it's all about clear vision and paying attention to what's going on around you, which is something you can only see and not hear. I pay attention to that 2-second safety zone at all times and to me, that's way more important than anything else. I always know what's around me by looking ahead and glancing in the mirrors constantly. A car horn is something you'll get when you get in their way and that should never happen when on a bike, not if you're paying attention to your surroundings. That's the I have seen it for 35 years on bikes.

Right on SCIFI...I'd be much more concerned about proper gear and a helmet than music. As has been said quite often: "There are only 2 kinds of riders...those who've been down and those who are going down". I''ve been down a few times both in the street and on the track and walked away every time, with a helmet on each time...and in one case with some very substantial helmet damage. I gave up the no helmet thing years ago when I got off the HOG.

Thanks for not taking offfense to my poll/question... I am glad that it was not taken in the wrong way!! I understand your points. I will try to maybe give an example of how I feel with the helmets... How many people wear helmets in their cars while driving to and from work. (I realize there are a ton of arguments to this, but stand by).. Obviously nobody does. The most common injury in car accidents resulting in death is head trauma. It would be safer for everyone to wear a helmet in their car. Here is the point... why don't we??? Race car drivers do. It has to do with many issues... but if we all knew that we were going to be in an accident in our car.. we would want a helmet on. What we look at is not that it will never happen, but we are willing to take the risk for: convienence, appearance, ability to see and hear, practicality, it messes our hair up, we can't talk on our cell phones, we can' talk in the car etc.... There is no doubt on a bike that it would be safer to have a helmet. There is no doubt that in a car it would be safer to have a helmet. It all comes down to where we each draw the line. For some they would rather go super fast on the road with a helmet. They know that going faster is more dangerous and is a bigger risk. People still take them. I choose to not always wear a helmet. That is my risk. I don't think either one is better or worse, except it is legal in Wisconsin to not wear a helmet... and it is illegal to exceed the speed limit. To me it seems that listening to music would be a large distraction that is multiplied by not being able to hear anything around you. Not horns... I agree, that is too late, but sometimes you can hear skidding brakes that allow you time to move (several cars behind you at an intersection). I have heard sirens from a distance and was able to prepare for the panic that everyone does, way before I could see it.etc... I have been down two times... both having someone pull out in front of me. Both times I was approaching the intersection and slowed up just knowing the idiot was pulling out. Sure enough. Neither time did I have on a helmet... and neither time was I injured. Will I go down again?? at this point some of you hope so.. lol... Anyway, thanks for the input. Enjoy the 14... and FBA, I think that you are a very honest straight forward person on here.. and I appreciate that.

I hear you... I was just kidding... I realize that I am talking a lot on the subject.. that is all... I think most of the guys on here are really good guys who love bikes!! I was a paramedic firefighter for 10 years... and now as many of you know am a police officer. (10 years) Through that I have learned to appreciate life... and to try to livie it with as much enjoyment as you can. I also have learned to find humor in everything. Although we all have our hot buttons... I for one don't hold anything against anyone, and I don't take things too seriously. But again, thanks... Hey also, Kawisaki.com is selling face shields for 19.99 for the shoei 900 (Gold)... I bought two of them and I really like it on my helmet. It is the gold mirror look but is also fine to ride with at night. I used it today and really like it... (The bugs are out in full force!) Thanks again! What jackets are you wearing. I have the green zx 12 jacket and I have a black hayabusa jacket but I am waiting for a zx 14 black.. Has anyone found on eyet?

I always wear a helment, but I respect the right of other people to not wear one. Dont tell me about social libility----pass a law to make smoking a crime----hell of a lot more people are in the health care system for that.

Come to Toronto where you can't smoke a cigarette in a public place.
And I'm wearing the Shoei X11.. best fitting helmet I've ever owned,and I currently have 6 other helmets (Bell, Shoei, and Simpson) downstairs.
And FBA, no prob, give me a yell.

As of last month, can't smoke in Quebec either, 'cept if you're on a terrasse/patio with no cover/awning that extends from the building. Can't smoke less than 30' from a public building either...cant have sex in public places, no hookers..etc
I'e acted surprised, showed concern, denied evrything, demanded proof, offered to help...but still, can't smoke here. Fuckin' sucks...
