You will have to get a better map for the PC... from all of the posts I have read on here.. it is extremely lean in all areas. It also doesn't adjust for the flies out. Since you are getting it from Brock, he may be able to put a generic map in to help you get your horsepower out. If you are going to take the flies out, I know that zx1kr has a map for stock without flies... His number is in his posts.. I hope that helps. Normally I believe that Kawasaki runs lean on their stock maps.. but I have heard that they are running more fuel, so you may not get as much out of the PC as it used to.

I am not touching the flies, so do you think its worth the money. Thanks for the reply

Yea, your wasting your money. You asked. PC won't help stock much. I'd really like to know what your stock horsepower is though. I assume you'll get it dyno'd. What pipes are you waiting for?? I have the Muzzy's, which I call Muzzle, because I just don't think they breath enough for the ZX14. Eventually gonna get Brock's sidewinder and the bike will be strictly a trailer queen until I get to the drag strip.

Take a look at this site, it shows a 6 hp gain with a pc on a stock zx14 tunned by DJ and Brock got 3 hp on his 14 with the stock pipes and pc so yes you can get the numbers you are looking for from the stock pipes.

Not to be rude, but sometimes I wonder if people poke around at all before posting?
The stock zx-14 pipe is a pig. Worse than the zx-12, which was a pig.
If you want to make your zx-14 (or any other bike for that matter +/-) perform dump the POS stock exhaust and a get a quality aftermarket exhaust.
That is performance mod #1.

First of all, if he gets himself a pipe... $800.00... he has to get a PC... $320.00. He will have no choice since the bike will run lean, pop and probably lose power in areas with a pipe and no PC. This equals $1120.00 at least... However, if he gets the PC $320.00 total and gets a good map, he may see improvement.. (which was his question in the first place)and then when he gets the pipe when he gets more money, he just has to put in a new map. In your post you state, "not to be rude but..." which is basically saying, "I am going to be rude". Not to be rude back... but I don't feel your post did much to inform him of anything he didn't know... and that includes that you are rude.

get the dual muzzys slip ons if youre into the whole dual pipe thing, which i think looks nice- assuming that you have no intentions on going with a full exhaust. dont think youll be getting much performance out of it though- but wouldnt be a waste of money compared to running a power commander on stock pipes...
no power commander needed with this, i think... i wouldnt know much about "slip-ons" though... rather pointless the way i see it
the quickest and cheapest way to lower your times would be to just strap the front.
aftermarket full exhausts and power commanders go hand in hand- buy em both at the same time. if you cant afford both then i guess getting the pc3 first makes the most sense.
if brock/dj claim that they gained 3-6 hp, thats enough to make you buy it? id be very skeptical about that... not calling it bullshit but its interesting..
putting a power commander on a stock pipe is probably one of the most asinine things i have ever heard... read about what a power commander is used for, and then think about what you just said. you really think you (or the local garage) can do a better job tuning than kawasaki????? this is sort of like trying to fix something thats not broken...
i cant wait to see what kind of hack jobs people turn their zx-14s into...
seems like some people shouldve gotten a cbr600 instead of a 14.
whatever im tired and rambling- going to bed.

Reason why I want to keep the stock pipes, I hate loud noice, plus I like stealth mod. I weigh 230 (with gear) and ran the 1/4 10.15 @ 139, 60' 1.70. It was strapped. If i can go 141 I should hit 9's. Also for the street to get rid of that low end lag, which to my understanding the PC, should do.
Thanks again!!!!

Yes there is more power to be had with a power commander and stock exhaust. I gained 4 horsepower at peak with a very very minor tune with the power commander. Gained about 1 foot pound of torque as well. The ZX14 runs very rich at full throttle above 8000 revs. Leaning it out some above 8000 revs definately helps, as does richening it up down low.. I think with a more time spent there is probably another 1 maybe 2 horsepower in there someplace.

PC & stock pipes bbird I am going with a PC and sticking with stock pipes this season. I would reccomend you wait until the offical Dynojet PC for the ZX-14 is available from Brock (good place to buy it due to support). The ZX-10 version will have no support or warranty from Dynojet. I have been told you don't get any software disc, instillation instructions or warranty registration card with the ZX-10 version. The new PC will be available shortly and you have some assurance all of the options available which you may want some of later will work and be supported.

The new zx14 pc were released by DJ on july 3rd, I got mine on 7/7 from MD Racing for $254 with free shipping, they come with a map for the stock pipes which made a 6hp increase over stock on DJ's dyno.

Actually guys, the zx14 is lean on bottom, and rich on top with stock map, and exhuast.
Yes a pipe will make the biggest difference, but months ago Colby, and Ricky G were stating that they picked up 7 HP from proper JETTING ALONE!

So To get your money worth, get an exhuast, but either way a PC3 will make a difference!

To answer your question, "Yes". Just having a properly mapped PowerCommander on top of a stock 14 will improve it. Look at my dyno charts on this forum for a glaring problem in the stock mapping.
But, on the other hand, where you see that the stock a/f ratio goes to hell (way too rich on top), Brock notes in Part 2 of his series that the bike needs more fuel at 95+ degrees at Nashville. Hmmmm...maybe the dyno can't account for the bike NOT correctly compensating for the ram-air effect...or temp...or.... Whatever, as Brock's testing points out, the dyno can't prove everything.

Refer to my $400.00 post. I wish we could all standardize on SAE horsepower so we have some consistancy. Even though Std hp with smoothing make you feel better.

Gotta remember, SAE has a lot more correction factor built in. It tends to 'equalize' readings...Which isn't always correct. Ie; if you look at a dyno reading (SAE) at 5000 feet in denver, and a dyno reading(SAE) at sea level in San Diego, they might be the same, but the bike in San Diego is making more power, because the correction for elevation. Or you could say it 'gives' power to the denver bike, same difference.

Thanks, I did not know that. I know when Brock ran his first dyno run on his new 14 he had a 160 something SAE and like 163 something STD. I thought it was a different way of measuring the same thing. I was told that different dynos give slightly different results anyway--is that true?
