The 186 MPH Mystical Barrier

We now have 32 pages in this forum and I still seek the genie to exceed the 186 mph barrier. Has anyone gone past this speed on a dyno or on the track?

If so.... please revel the secret to the Holy Grail.

A 196 mph at maxton, only mod was a 18t front sprocket, apparently it fools the ecu and the engine has the hp/trq to pull it.

Ignore the speedo, it probably at least 10% optimistic.

I ran at a top speed event on an airfield at the weekend. The speeds were very accurately timed using a speed trap over a 20 yard distance.

Using a Speedo Healer to fool the ecu that I was going slower than it's pre-set limit ,which make the speedo under-read, I did a best run of 190.4mph on a totally stock 14. Stock gearing, stock height, stock exhaust, even had the mirrors on.

Another totally stock 14 did 191. He was just unplugging the tacho feed from the gearbox sprocket prior to each run. He was able to do one run before he got an EFI error and had to plug back in to re-set it between runs.

I should add that the Speedo Healer has a transparent mode, which is what I use for road riding. I just use the offset method for events.

Hope this answers your question.

Bob, No crap WITH THE MIRRORS ON. I remember when riding a 1980 KZ650 doing the 1/4, this old guy kept stopping by saying I could do better if I dropped the mirrors. I did not buy into it. Finally the third time he told me I gave in and it clearly made a huge difference. After 25 years I don't remember the time but it was better by at least 1/4 sec if I recall correctly. Good Post.

Yes Rob, the Class 1 rules for that meeting are STRICT. If you removed the mirrors you'd be put up into Class 2 with the "pipe and PC" boys. Top speed de-restriction is the only tampering allowed. I guess we'd all be doing 186 otherwise.

Hey bobc did you redline it. Do you have the remote for the sh to show your speed. Would it redline or did you run out of room.

No remote. The tacho was on around 10700rpm but I compute that at the electronically measured speed, 190.4mph, it was actually revving at about 10100rpm. The tacho, like the speedo is not accurate.
The remote would not be any use, I was not using the SH to calibrate the speedo, just to put in a massive under-read so I wouldn't hit the speed restrictor at 186. Crude but effective.

I bet it is better to NOT fold the mirrors since they would still be in the airstream and the side profile is not as good as the front :-)

Definite good news with the Speedohealer. The 14 won't pull more than 10k rpm in 6th with stock gearing, BUT, after installing the Speedohealer and a 16T front sprocket, the bike pulls to 11k after calibrating the speedo to my GPS. Actual speed, per the GPS, with a 16T front sprocket is 17mph/1,000 rpm in 6th gear. Do the math. )

How fast?? I set my speedhealer at -10% and with stock gearing I'm seeing the same thing (want pass 10k rpm is 6th) The speedo with a -10% read showing around 176.. what the fuck is up with this.. I want more speed

Erm no actually.

Class 1 record was held by a 12R at 190. (i.e. off the showroom floor stock class)

But the rear of a mirror is flat. Ya' gotta put the air back where it was for minimal drag.

Real world tests show otherwise.
The Hayabusa was
quote:
consistently tested as the quickest and fastest production motorcycle in the world circa 2000 (see Cycleworld June 2000, Performance Bikes June 2000, Sportbike Magazine June 2000, Motorcyclist Magazine June 2000, Bikenet Online, Bike Magazine - UK, May 2000, and others around the world.

There are many that show the 12R as being faster. Magazine tests are not worth a shit anyway as wind can change causing one run to be 10mph quicker than another on any given day. The only way is to establish a record over multiple events, over a large number of different days, with a multitude of different riders on examples of each bike.

In the UK, the 12R has been shown as the fastest production bike at BOTH of it's top speed venues consistently and held the record throughout.

I understand the stock bike track record at Maxton was held by Doug Meyer on a ZX12R. At Bonneville, the 12 has been the fastest showroom stock bike too.

It was, without doubt, the fastest production bike.

The king is dead however, long live the ZZR

My son was riding the stock (except for the 18 countersprocket) 14 at Maxton last month. He did run 196.1 mph which is faster than Dougs 192 pass on the 12 and Scott Guthries fastest stock 'Busa pass of 192.
The 14 is the fastest production bike........period.
I have a 12 and love it but the 14 is a runner for sure. Awesome bike!
