Oil Change Interval

I realize the manual states every 7500 miles. A bit long in my opinion,

I figure every 1500 - 2000 miles is a good compromise.

Just did the 1st change last Sat with 570 miles on the odo. Had 1000 miles the next day.

Plan to switch to synthetic at 2000 miles.

How often are you all changing the oil/filter ?

I'm planning the following schedule, first change at 600 miles (tomorrow), second change at 2000 miles. 3000 mile intervals after that using Shell Rotella T 5W40 Synthetic oil. Has worked out great on my other bikes. Everyone is going to have their own opinion on this one so get ready for it!

I've had pretty good luck running 8,000 miles on the VFR. I have a little over 4,200 miles now on the 14's oil and with a possible 3500 mile trip coming up I suspect I will change the oil before I leave. I use Ams-oil Synthenic and have every intention of running her 7,500 miles between oil changes. keeping in mind I ride through 7,500 miles pretty fast. ;^)

first oil change at 600 miles, thereafter every 1500 miles including oil filter. i have been using motul brand for a long time. i do change every 1500 miles because of the heat in houston, texas and i don't do alot of highway riding.

My 12 gets new tires and new oil every 2-2500 miles.I just passed 40000 miles and it runs as good as the day i bought it.Living 30 miles from the gap gets expensive.

You should change your oil really soon for the first change. 600mi. is too much for the first change. it is dyno proven to bring your bike up to redline really soon, and give the bike hell in a moderate way. i changed my oil at 50 miles, 300, and just recently at 900. i rolled up to 7000rpms when it had 80 miles on it, after the 50mi. change. remember..... the gears, pistons, etc. have to grind to mesh together smootly. you dont want those shavings circulating in your gears for 600 miles. the oil filter, filters some oil, but not all. just my opinion

I dump the factory oil/filter around 400 miles. Dino oil (Castrol GTX) until 1500 miles and then syn after that. I change the syn every 2500 miles and put Castrol back in them during the winter layover.

I run Purolater Pure One filters exclusively. Infinitely better filters than the OEM and less than half the price.
