Just watched "Superbikes" on Speed...

What a waste of time. I hope they continue to develop the show, it may have potential. This initial episode was mostly dedicated to stunters... you know, those guys that ride wheelies down city streets causing the general public to have a poor opinion of *all* sportbike riders.

There was no ZX-14 content, nor was there any "superbike" content to speak of. It was pretty much all hooligan bikes and squid stunts. Oh well...

Speedvision continues to pander to the lowest intellectual common denominator in the TV audience. Greg's garage could be pretty damn boring, but it was an attempt to provide useful news and info to the biking world. This new shit is just more sensationalism. At least Michelle Smith has nice tits, even if they are probably fake.

How about that show Fast Inc on MTV? Has anyone else watched it?

It's a show about these guys who find cars for the stars. Well in the last episode they had to find a good looking girl who was a good sport bike rider for a video shoot. The whole show they called sportbikes "GP bikes". By the end of the show I was throwing things at the TV everytime they asked someone if they knew "any girls that could ride a GP Bike." You could actually see some of the guys in the MC shops look at them like they were idiots. Don't know why I watched the whole thing....

It was the first show - it was marginally OK.

Had some good stuff goin though - I mean they did show the guys 180hp street fighter, a turbo and also a nitroused bike. More than the usual dribble but needs some work.

Seems like they're tryin ta stuff an hour show into a half hour - had they focused on lifestyles and hangouts or just the bikes for the time they had, it prolly woulda been betta.

Hopefulla a work in progress.

I especially enjoyed reading their disclaimer that said something about all stunts being done in controlled circumstances, and on closed courses by professional riders. Then they show the show's host pulling wheelies, doing stoppies, and burnouts down city streets...

Controlled circumstances my ass. They're gonna get their asses sued the first time that someone kills themselves immitating their "stunts" on public roads... disclaimers don't go very far with a good lawyer these days.

I agree! They keep showing crap like that and the sqids will start droping like flies, and John Q Pubic will have the worst opinion of sportbikes. Hell I love motorcycles and I didn't enjoy it . How many young riders do you think picked up on that guy shooting past cars on the right side between the car and the curb. Totally tastless!

I fly an EMS helicopter, and last week we picked up a "squid". Poor guy was just doing a wheelie, for 2 city blocks, at night. Hit the side of a truck that didn't see him because his front end was up in the air. The results; Permanent brain damage(he was wearing a helmet), badly broken arm that may have to be amputated(I never called back to find out, didn't wanna know), and a badly broken leg.
Guy was only 23 and a fire-fighter. It's shit like this that just pisses me off to know end. I drag race my bike, and if I wheelie there, it's a bad thing. I've never done a wheelie on the street to show off, primarily because I suck at it. When I ride my bike to the track I wear full leathers and a helmet, drive the speed limit(yea, ok, I lied, I've gone fast on public roads, but usually no ones around), and don't show off to anybody.
Having a ZX14 means that you already have the fastest bike around, so you don't have anything to prove to anybody. Leave the wheelies and stoppie bullshit for the track, believe me, I don't wanna keep picking up these kids that try to emulate what they see on TV, or streetfire.com.
Ok, now I'll get off my soapbox. Just be safe out there, and please THINK before you do something that might permanetly fuck you up for the rest of your life, it only takes a split second.

I think anybody who found superbikes as offensive to motorcycling as I did should drop speed an e-mail. Anybody with sons and daughter definitly don't want them consuming that crap, at least I don't

the problem is that speed channel does not have enough programs to fill the gaps on daily basis. that is why they show everything 4-5 times a day and if they take this new program off, we are going to have more nascar!!!!

its a shame this show is catching so much flack from this forum, i respect that it's your opinions and all.

For myself, I thought i was pretty okay, I'm certainly no tv producer but i'm hard pressed to see that if it was focussed on fared sportbikes and roadracing how it would remain interesting for the long term. I like that it focussed on stories more so than bikes and to my observation didnt strike me as just fluff for bike manufacterers and aftermarket component makers (non-with standing the cbr600rr and the gixxer front end "streetfighter-usa" seems to put on all his custom fighters. I'm very impressed that the first episode started out with custom streetfighters as it certainly isnt a widely know or respected phenom' here in the states yet the rest of the world knows the deal. This being the land of the cruiser and the fared "rice-rocket" as we know.

I think it has potential and right now it certainly has my interest. I hope it stayes focussed on stories and the "biker lifestyle" in general and stays away from being pimped out just to highlight the latest and greatest sportbike...that will get old QUICK and how many episodes can you squeeze out of promoting any particular sportbike or racetrack....maybe 24..tops. There was some squiddiness in there, did you expect there not to be??

There is a reson why the cruser/chopper shows seem to have more traction on the tv now with custom builders, boobied chicks, etc. The seem to promote the lifestyle..or "assumed" lifestyle and the relationship owners have with their bikes. There is already MotoGP, AMA, etc being showed, having another show to mimic what is already out there is suicide.

Also they showed my bike, my beloved Triumph Speed Triple...whoo-hoo0oo.

If they focus on telling stories and get outta California every now and then I'll keep watchin'
