Yes, that is normal(having to calibrate the TP) I have to do it on 99% of the bikes I tune.
As far as working w/ PC when the bike is not running? Try the 9v adapter & plug a 9v into it. I cannot say for sure that will work as I've only used that to upload PCs' w/ a map while it was still in the box. I usually have the bike running when I'm doing setting adjustments cuz its on the dyno w/ the fans keeping things cools in between runs. For those of you that experience some popping off throttle w/ this map & you have blocked off the pair valve.
You can pull 6% to 8% out of 0% TP above 1500 rpm. I'm thinking that should fix it. Just a suggestion, it wont hurt none. If you done know what I'm talking about . Sit tight & when I get tthe 14 back on dyno for a Complete session of tuning that map should cure any rough edges.

Keep in mind that this map is not what I would consider a replacement for custom mapping your bike on a dyno. Canned Maps such as this will definitely get you close enough to be out of danger of engine damage & they will feel good as opposed to not have any at all. But for example, I installed a perfect match for my mods "Canned Map" on my 2004 ZX10 & it pulled 149HP when I got thru custom tuning it that same bike a short time later that day was pulling 158HP.

Dyno Tuning your bike is the cheapest way to get ponies out of your ride!

Thanks zx1kr, just installed the PC/Map.. Started pouring as I was installing, so can't ride at the moment.
I've never really messed with the software on a PC3(have messed with several automotive units)... All of the automobile units required setting the Throttle position.. I found that the power commander stock was a little off, and reset it. Is this normal, or does the PC somehow auto calibrate with the TPS voltage?
Also, I set it... but it was kind of a bitch b/c I had to do it with the bike on, nothing would register with just the ignition on. Is there any other way to upload maps, mess with the TPS settings etc with the bike off?

My PC came with the 9 Volt plug in to power it off the bike. I loaded the map at my computer desk before installing it on the bike. Was a snap......TB

Holy sit. This thing over 6 is a beast but not scary any more.

I need to make it faster. Will the map only work with the 10 PCR. Does PC have the 14 out yet?

Shit I need it, I want it, well ok I just want it....

Wow, Thanks for the map zx1kr. I put it in this afternoon, and all I can say is DAYUMM. Smoothed the bottom right out. I will need to tweak it as my exaust is different. Running Stock mid pipes with D&DS. You have done us a great favor by sharing, and saved some wear and tear on the machine too. I really appriceate it Bud....Tom

Has anyone other than MB installed & rode the 14 w/the "No flies" installed? If so please let me know whatcha think.

Guys,
I just spent 3 straight days on the dyno making maps and testing some new items.

I DO NOT recommend removing the secondary throttle plates unless you know what you are getting yourself into....there are drivability areas which CAN NOT be cured with mapping-AT ALL! In fact, aggressive throttle positions at lower rpm's can cause the bike to TURN OFF while riding! Kawasaki engineers placed the plates in this engine for a reason.... Also, low speed- idle/drivability becomes very inconsistent after the removal.

I will be first to pull them out if I ever lengthen the bike or make it a race only machine....not for street use. FYI: gas mileage at cruising speeds goes down the toilet also.

There are other options which will not harm drivability nearly as much while still providing the same 20 ft-lbs/10 hp increase at around 3K rpms. I'll be the first to admit that the additional torque is a hoot on the street! But, after the initial thrill... I found myself wanting to return the plates and wondering if I would have to worry about ingesting little screws into my engine...FOREVER.

Internet hype can cause BIG PROBLEMS......FOR EVERYONE........

I will be presenting more fact about this issue next week- PATIENCE will save some guys a pile of headaches later.

ok, I have to agree with the driveability issue(although, I'm very used to it now).

But I have to disagree with gas mileage, I actually found that I got better gas mileage with the plates removed!

As far as the improved mileage, was that w/ the map I sent you? I actually lost about 10% off my avg. mpg. but I think that was caused by a condition I recently caught. I think they call it "WFO-itus"!

Your MPG. will drop markedly w/ the map I sent you, the mpg increase you experienced was from running +16.1 AFR. NOT GOOD! Did you get a chance to run w/ the map yet?

Your numbers seem right on with my dyno runs. I have pretty good
computer skills but never messed with a tuning map. I saw the program opened
up and all the adjustments you mentioned. I just don't have the means to set
all of the settings. I would need an exhuast gas sensor and some other things
in order to set all the settings up. I didn't want to mess with it and f*%k up my 14.
I got 7 less hourse then you did but it was 95.5 Degrees and crazy hunidity like
60 or 70% if I remeber correctly. So I would think I could get like 6 more on a good
day. I don't know that much about all the settings so I am guessing on some of the
things I mentioned. Any info or corrections are welcome. Thanks Vak

Brock it seems like your beating a dead horse on this issue. I personally havent taking mine out to see the difference. I see you stand firm with your opinion. I think its like crack. Guys have got a taste of it and want more. I think i'll wait and see what you come up with. We all have been staying tuned so far and taking your advice. Lets see what else you can do.

DO NOT TOUCH ANY CONFIGURATIONS ON YOUR PCIIIUSB VAK!

Please, you just had it tuned. Leave her alone. If you had Ivan tune it , it's fine.

The best thing you could do w/ your PCIIIusb right now is forget it's on your bike!

Trust me on this 1!

Not to argue with Brock's point of view but, I for one, would not put the throttle plates back in...I love the way it runs with them out...just as my old Busa did, but, due to the lean AFR's we're hearing about, I'm putting them back in until I get my exhaust/PC3 and ignition module done and mapped. I do believe that the timing IS retarded in the lower gears and the only proper way to correct that is with the ignition module, which according to Vegas dude is 8 weeks away (NO P-O-S TRE FOR ME), so I have to wait till then to install the entire setup, since I plan to visit the Dyno only once to setup the bike...the flies are going back in this weekend...don't want holy pistons....LOL

If the timing improves the TQ/HP down low and you remove the plates and map accordingly, the bike will make very serious grunt and power down low...maybe too much for the strip as per Brock's commments, but good for the street.

The driveability issues he I believe he refers to, are the same as the Busa always had...having to clutch in turns or jump up a gear in order not to kick the back wheel out....very twitchy throttle...(no only-one-hand-on-the-bars in low gears at low speeds, unless you want to go down...LOL). These are things that all Busa riders have had to deal with...but time always made things fine on those bikes (for me anyways) and I found that having all that low end grunt in the street was just perfect for my riding style. Just my .02...

zx1kr you are a good man and we all thank you for your time ... We need people like you and Brock to come up with power mods and tunning aids.. The bike has been out a short time and look at what has been done so far ...Your map is the first of its kind and it's a test bed for more and better things to come ....In doing this you have started a chain reaction and that's a good thing....... Keep up the good work !!!! .

Listen, I just want to go back a few weeks to refresh some of my thoughts on this "NO FLIES" topic.

There was no way on Gods green earth that anyone would've convinced me to pull these flies out w/o a PC to properly correct AFR. Let alone installing a PC rewired to "work" w/ my
precious ZX14.

But, I've been having tuned & tuning hi-performance street motors naturally aspirated,NOS etc. since the early 90's. I remember a time not that long ago when a set of 39 or 41mm Keihin Flatslides were the must have items if you wanted to squeeze max potential out of your motor. I had 164HP at the rear wheel of 98' R1 which I believe was attributed in part to that set of carbs. Yes, It was a violent hitting wheelie monster that w/ stock gearing & my 250lb ass geared up would run 10.50's in the low 140's all day on 1 wheel.

That's what I wanted & that's what I got! I didn't build it for partial throttle ridablity, I built it because when one of my fat-ass buddies rolled up on his New Busa & we did an 80mph roll-on HE GOT DUSTED!

Now I'am not advocating irresponsible riding on public streets in any form, just stating the hypothetical situations behind why some of us chose to pull those cute lil' flies outta the t-bodies.

What I have tried to premote by making this "NO FLIES" map available to those who choose to sacrifice that low rpm smooooth for something alittle more on the radical side is a proper Air/Fuel Ratio so that these individuals do not do serious damage in the pursuit of that Pony.

An obvious negative to this "NO FLIES" issue is you make more ponies, you make the chances of breaking something more prevalent. I consider this point a to be just a matter of common sense. If this is a concern that you don't want to deal with the possibility of, PUT THE FLIES BACK IN!

But, you will be behind me until something of equal improvement comes along.. LOL

This is my opinion on the "NO FLIES" issue.
