Cut off exhaust? Dump out behind footpeg

I spoke to Bob at Roaringtoyz.com about the short dump exhaust they have for the 14, and he said they cut the stock exhaust at the footpeg, and put on tips.
Has anyone ever done this and how well does it work? I also have contacted Boz Borthers about there total exhaust system that dumps behind the footpeg to see the difference.
Anyone who has experience in this area please advise!!!

I've seen a custom exhaust like that on a Honda XX. It was louder than D&Ds but not as loud as running off the headers. I don't know about performance or power with that stub exhaust set up though.

i spent about a month riding with the stock headers slash cut right below the peg on my 12. i'd say 2 things:

1. it's loud as fuck. u'd basically have to be a total asshole to run that on the street, or live in a town of asshoels that deserves to have to listen to it. not sure if the tips those companies add provide any sound reduction at all.

2. the bike ran like shit. i have to get the thing well over 5 grand to run smoothly at all. starting off from a light was a total pain in the ass cause it just didnt want to go. no power, and constatnly threatening to stall. now i'm sure a remap would help reduce that, but in general any IC engine running open headers or open pipe is not gonna run well at low RPM and won't idle worth shit.

I just had a visual of you breaking open your PC like in the movie Zoolander to get the pics "out".

good question, but i'm afraid i don't know if i can give you an accurate answer as i've never directly compared. certainly much worse than a stock harley of course. compared to the common harley (or cruiser in general) you see putting around with straight pipes... i just really don't know. while putting around town and if you intentionally keep the RPMs down, probably not. but once you give 'er gas, especially at high RPM, i dont think anything is that loud. you know what, you can tell for yourself quite easily. just unbolt the cans and ride around like that for a few minutes. that should be just a little quiter than what u'd get from a slashcut (ie say quiter cause u have a little more pipe and that Y that _may_ drop the sound down a bit).

"it's so simple, they're IN the computer..."

A slashcut on a 14 will be a lot quieter than one on the 12. The 14 still has cats, which act as a halfassed muffler...unless you remove those also.

The cats are in the front half of the stock cannisters...if you slashcut...or put the turn down tips angled out on the bike it would be before the cannisters just off of the lower header....so no cats to quiet it down.
