I had to ask a 2nd opinion so that I was not lie to you guys or myself. The wife says I wear one about 90%. Sometimes it is so stink'n hot here (Phoenix) that if I am just going to the movie store or down the block, I do not wear one. But if I am going out to play, you can bet I do!!! I am alive and writing this today because I had one on about 20 years ago On the other hand I hate other poeple telling me how to live my life, so I choose to live where I CAN!! choose weather or not to "BUCKET UP"

Have Dumped a few of my Rides, both on and off the Track....
Still functioning on most cylinders (wife thinks different) Thanks to bell and Shoei...

You only put a 10 dollar melon in a 10 dollar helmet.
It's the law here in Ontario, but it still amazes me the idiots flying around, helmet undone, T-shirt / Jeans / running shoes.

Usually in States-Places with a lid law, the people who would not otherwise wear them, wear the fake ones that will do absolutely nothing in a crash.
You know, the 'novelty' helmets that have the warning sticker "not a helmet"
helmet laws suck.......

I am always amazed by this argument. The only time I don't wear a helmet is pulling out of my garage. Once I leave the driveway the helmet, gloves and jacket are on every time - and full leathers when I go out to play. It's not taking away any rights by making you wear a helmet, it's just drumming a little common sense into those that don't. it makes me cringe every time I see someone without a helmet, or wearing a t-shirt. Road rash is a bitch at 10 mph, but at 100+, I don't want any part of that.

In my line of work......It's a must!!!........besides, with as many crashes as I've been through....I would never go with out.
My personal feeling is that it's a much cooler look to see someone in full gear....ya know,, poser style......it's all good.

I have a couple of Shoei helmets (an X-eleven - very comfortable by the way), and a 1990 Eddie Lawson American Eagle that I fitted with closed cell foam (used in my flight helmet too) - VERY Comfortable - Yes, I wear a helmet, always, have just gotten use to it from flying and motorcycling.

Here in South Carolina it is not a law. We fight for the freedom of not wearing them but freedom has nothing to do with Safety. It's the right thing to do!

Here in Illinois you don't have to wear a helmet and its your choice, I respect a persons right to choose, its just like smoking cigarettes.
I , myself always wear my helmet.

I was checking the quality of armour in some leathers at Cycle Gear last week.
The salesperson helping me mentioned his Titanium Knee.
Let's see:
350.00/full 1 piece leathers. armour upgrades, back protector, 200.00.
35,000.00 Titanium Knee, included: [N/C crippled for life, follow up replacements later, lots of achs and pain forever].
On an impulse[ i guess] I bought the leathers.

I've had a couple of "offs" in the last ten years. Both times I don't remember my head even touching the ground and both times my helmet looked as if someone had been at it with an angle-grinder. Enough said !
Then I read that a certain Steelers quarterback has had a rather nasty accident on his Hayabusa. The poor guy was not wearing a helmet and furthermore there's a quotation attributed to a salesman from Northgate Motorcycles in Cranberry, Butler County "The motorcycle is popular among first-time buyers"
Hayabusa, first-time buyer, no helmet ???.................WTF

Same angle grinder worked on my helment. Me? Not scratched.
So I guess I should ignore the NFL replica gear [ cut offs, t shirt tennis shoes ] on e bay for 15.00.
At least people don't make fun of gear as much anymore. They just stare.

Rothlisberger was given the motorcycle as a promo for some advertising he did with Suzuki, from what I remember. So even worse than a first time buyer, he was handed keys to one of the top 3 fastest sport/cruise bikes without doing much homework on the bike, probably. The helmet would have most certainly reduced his head injuries from hitting the old bitty that pulled out in front of him. If he was going highway speeds instead of 35-40, he might not even be with us any more. At least he has changed his stance on safety equipment per his last comments about the accident.

You know every once in a while i ride without my helmet, and gear, but every time i see video's like that it reminds me to wear my gear. You know it's always after i see those video's that i start wearing my gear, the internet is full of video's like that. which is good cause it's always a reminder, I mean it's easy just to get on the bike and take that short ride, but stats show that most of those types of accidents happen less than three to four miles from the home. Here in Colorado you don't need to wear a helmet. I guess i better start wearing it 100% of the time instead of 70% of the time.

These bikes do 100-130mph easier than a Harley does 30.
All the same, even relaxing, except when you hit the ground you're not doing 10 or 20mph.

Dying is one thing. Living without your jaw is another. Why do people wear half helmets? Statistics shows that your face will hit more than 40 percent on a spill. Plus you can't really go fast with a half helmet especially without a helmet. Just ride a convertible sportscar if you want to look cool.

I agree totally with Big Bore Biker. Too damn many laws that try to protect us from ourselves, and personal rights go right down the tubes. I wear a helmet, but i sure respect the rights of someone who choses to not wear them. I do not feel "superior to those who do not". Also agree with havabusa12r. Do not try to force your opinion on other people.

I know I'm going to get shit for this, but take it for what it's worth.
I have been in 17 off bike accidents, two with just my trusty bean cap. In 8 of the 17 my helmet was off instantly. Fully strapped and fit fine, they just came off along with my shoes/boots. The paramedics on several of the instances said it happens quite frequently and he was surprised I didn't lose toes.
My bean cap stayed on and actually did good by me twice in two very bad accidents. Despite popular belief, they do protect.
I think the first 3 years you ride, no matter when you start, it should be manditory along with cc limits. Then if your record is satisfactory, it should be a choice.
My close friend was coming home with his family in a dodge caravan when he blew a tire and rolled over one time coming off an off ramp. His mother, wearing her seatbelt in the front passenger seat was the only one killed in such a small crash. When you go, you go, you can't control it. What these videos don't show is the same footage of guys jacked up who wore helmets. I'd rather die!!!!!!
