DYNO run Ok so I just got my bike dyno'd today. I have seen a lot of 169hp figures on forums and I even saw on 166hp....so i was pleasantly surprised today. My new zx-14 with 1200 miles on her cracked out 173.8 rwhp. The guy who dyno's the bike for me was plenty surprised as well. He had customers who called the shop before my bike went on the dyno (just asking about parts or things for their bikes) and when he told them he was getting ready to dyno a ZX-14....many came by the shop to watch. Next thing you know I have a small crowd of guys around me asking all kinds of questions and being completely amazed at my big red machine. By the way the man who dyno'd my bike for me was Billy Rohm....most people who have been around the motorcycle industry for a long time should be familiar with his work. He and his old partner Richard Sims (the comapany used to be called Sims & Rohm)
are most known for building the fastest naturally aspirated street bike about 14 years ago...they built the one of the first if not the first GSXR 1452cc bikes. In fact it was one of these that held the record for many years at 203 miles an hour). By the way that original record holding 1452 made 235 rwhp and was full of tricks stuff like the one of kind billet cylinder block, titanium rods, a spread port head, (thats where the stock head has the ports milled out of the face of the head, then aluminum billets are installed in its face...and the ports are hand fabricated so as to be straight shots to the combustion chambers, instead of the outside ports having to angle outwards to the chambers). custom cams, and a modified version of formula one car pistons used with rm 250 wrist pins...etc...tons of stuff. By the way my best friend (and racing partner) and I, both own this original motor and all its spares as well....only right now its getting converted to a 1607cc monster for my NMRA 60" wheelbase Katana 1100. Anyways, Even Billy Rohm was impressed enough that he is going to run my bike this next Wednesday at the Sacramento Raceway to see what kind of numbers he can get out of it and because he is now thinking about buying one himself. (he was gonna buy a busa...until the dyno runs today LOL). I will have further posts as my pipe gets dyno'd (should be here monday, a Brock Davidson Gen 3 street system) and then after power commander and butterfly removal.

I was one of the "originals' with Billy back in the days. We used to drag race together. In fact, Billy took me to my first drag race at sac raceway. I had intended to only watch, but Billy got me into the staging lanes withough me knowing it and I had to make a pass. Well, the rest is history.
Billy knows I have a ZX14 and will be drag racing it. I'll call him on the phone to get some advise. Tell him Paul said Hi, from Louisiana.
Have I raced you before?? The name "suicycle" was synonymous with a certain bike shop in Sac a "few years ago".
Anyways, good luck with your 14, I got a blue one. I have the Muzzy pipe, PC, Lowering links and straps, and swingarm extentions. Just no Billy. Gawd I wish I was back in Yuba City. He could get this thing whipped into shape in no time.

Yea, I talked to Billy this morning. We talked about your bike, and he said it pulled like 172 hp on his dyno. Also, I've never met you. I thought I knew who you were, but Billy and I have been drag racing bikes since the mid 80's and he said I've never met you. Anyways, I don't live in Yuba City anymore, but my family, and a few ex's still ive there. I went back in November, it's grown, but it's still kind of a depressed area. I miss the old days at sacramento raceway. I was the motorcycle track champion for a few years, wasn't a big feat really, just a lot of luck, and I made all the races, so I got more points.
Let us know what Billy runs on your bike. He's got an R1 that will be in the 9's real soon. And a Hardly that will run 9's someday.

Say hi to Billy for me and tell him that he's way too slow and old to be drag racing ZX14's...... We go way back. I lived in Sacramento from 1980 - 93. I think I bought a GSXR750 from him back in 1986 when they first got imported to the USA to go Supersport racing in between nationals. I use to practice my starts at Sac Raceway (for roadracing) and also raced the Friday night stadium motocross to stay in shape. I don't see him as often since we moved to SoCal. But once in a while at an event or tradeshow.
