Roethlisberger bike crash in PA

Pittsburgh Steelers qaurterback Ben Roethlisberger involved in motorcycle accident.
Wasn't wearing a helmet (not required in PA) on his ''Suzuki sport bike''.
Couldn't really tell what kind of bike it was, but it had dual exhaust. I believe it was a Busa?

That does not look good.
The left turn oncoming. I believe that is still the #1 cause of bike accidents, isn't it?
It is impossible to see bikes I guess.

What happened to him? He must have been badly hurt landing on his head after using it for a can opener...and no helmet to boot? Looks like the 05 LE...

USA Today this morning said he's 'OK, serious'
USA also said 'broken Jaw and other facial injuries successfully treated/repaired'.
He was up at the scene according to a witness.
'Awake and alert after surgery', USA reported.
Brain, spine USA reported 'OK, uninjured'.

Two words: HIGH BEAMS!!!!

I can almost gaurantee you that the lady pulled in front of him because she didn't see his BLACK bike coming down the road IN THE SHADE under that elevated road where the collision happened.

ALWAYS RIDE WITH YOUR HIGH BEAMS ON!!!

I know I read that lights on = no reduction in accidents.
Do the high beams help?
I always keep mine on.
I've had friends comment on how bright my 14's high beams are in daylight.
I would like to find some stats to back that up.
Anyone in the insurance industry who can access stats like that?

Yeah - that too... kind of a moron for riding around a congested city (or anywhere for that matter) without a helmet on.

Broken jaw, missing most of his teeth... he's gonna look like more like a professional hockey player than a football player!

It's all over ESPN! First of all I pray that he get's better. To me it seems like the media is making a a issue of not wearing his helmet than anything else. I heard the today that the lady who hit him was around 66 years old. Just glad to see the big guy doing better. Not a pitt fan at all, but he's a motorcylist first. As far as him not wearing his helmet we it's his free will. I would not do it, but that was his call and it's one that he will always remember

Yea i would have at least had a helmet on. I bet he hasnt been riding long. Ive been riding 11yrs and always look at whats coming at intersections. I bet he wasnt looking at his surrondings. From what i saw in the diagram he had time to hit his brakes. If he was moving faster that the car she would have hit him in the front of the car. Im sure he wasnt paying attention until it was to late. Working in the fire department and riding I see alot of wrecks like this. Most of the time its a harley rider. If hes a die hard rider he ll be riding again with his helmet. If not, that will be his last ride. I hope he ll heal fast. Cant risk a million dollar job not being careful.

I don't rely just on a helmet
I suggest a safety vest = yelloe vest with reflective stripes
Have saved me at least once

TJ,
I had some old Metro Life Ins, stats that actually supported our sport as safer than most others. Old stats. I would like to find newer.
I used to carry them for when people [ who don't ride and know nothing about our sport,of coarse ] jumped me for riding 'murder,donor...whatever cycles.

Ya think? If he was wearing one he wouldn't have had 7 hours of facial reconstruction surgery and would have walked away with minor bumps and bruises...

He was recently upgraded to fair condition and they say he can probably go home in the next 3-5 days. He lost 2 teeth and broke a number more.

Were you just born stupid or did you take lessons? Your answer is so stereotypical of the type of Busa owner I absolutely abhor. People sometimes ask me what I have against Busa's and my answer is always the same... "the Busa is a great machine, but a lot of the people riding them are just dumbfuck asswipes, like you."

You're the embarrassment to Busa owners, not him. You obviously have zero to offer on this forum so this is all I have to say to you...
