oil changes... oil filters
no doubt something has changed in the universe iv
not been informed about
since i was knee high to a water bucket
i was taught fill the oil filter
depending on car or bike that can take 1/4 .....1/3.....to 1/2 quart
oil has an essential property
it likes to stick together.........viscous
i usually fill my filter even b4 i start anything else
help the oil saturate the filter material &
Eliminate even the air bubbles
so by time ive removed the oil from
the crank pan......removed the old filter
replaced the plug
i might even need to add just a wee bit move b4 i install the filter
even on slant blocks or like on many
motorcycles the installatin is almost.....sometimes
nearly vertical to the ground
putting the filter on the nipple
giving it a 1/4 turn backwards.....then spinning it rapidly
onto the nipple results in Not a mess......
Not a loss of oil
& particularly no OIL Starvation at start up
NO cavitation in oil lines & distribution
& NO MESS
clearly i avoid any Burping of the filter
Any Pressure drops anywhere
or ANY Risk of Damage from low oil supply
or starvation in the further reaches of the engine
the filter has as much or more oil in it
as if you just turned the engine off
& were cranking it the next day...... to go for a ride
so altho i offer NO criticism
burping filters
guessing if oil supply is adequate
& most engineers would agree
start off offeres the Biggest opportunity for wear than almost
ANY other time
why take the risk
i would take a filter off & refill it b4 i would burp it
no less on some engines
at idle you would be surprised at how little oil pressure you have at idle
& at start up with bike on side stand
just offering a positive alternative
& even less risk
good luck
