Damn the bad luck !!

So the family goes out riding today, the wife on her T-100 Bonneville and me with the kid on my big, red ZX-14. We get home and there are melted rubber marks all over my exhaust canisters. Logans new tennis shoes look like hell. Darlene is pissed. She just bought those shoes. I was told in no uncertain terms to get that exhaust system changed out immediately if not sooner. Bummer. Now what is a guy to do? I'll do like I'm told, of course.

So, how loud is Brocks street meg system? Will the neighbors form a lynch mob? Does anyone know if I can switch out the meg with the oval canister just for a change?

The header and collectors will be the same I "think"... not 100% sure, but the mid and slincer change out together.... The mid pipe is short so it will be relatively cheap...if even necessary. The can will be the expensive part.... if you want to interchange em!

And yes its is really loud with the baffle
.... can't imagine riding around town without the baffle.

My wife asked what I'm trying to prove! LOL
I didn't think it would be that loud ...with baffle.

My German wife... LOL surmised it looks and funcions like an ALP horn LOL...
you know like the ones in Riccola comercials....

Yup cruising away from the house in stealth mode is not an option... LOL

nuthing sounds like the WAIL of the smeg when you hit 11,000 rpm though,
absolutely NOTHING!

You will love it ... it sure suits the personality, or the performance lurking when the secondary throttle plates are gone , along with the pipe and Brocks mapping !
Its a beast... totally different level of performance!

You will love it!
... but others might not!

I used gasket remover, let is soak in and wipe off rubber, with soft cloth!
2 applications did the trick and no scratches!
Keep it away from any paint or metal though!

Just spoke to one of the sales guys @ Brocks. 109 decibels for the Smeg and 105 decibels for the Gen 3 system. Yes, the silencers can be interchanged but the mid pipe must be purchased also. They already have a kit to go from Gen 3 to Smeg and will put one together to go the other way if requested. Cost is around $450.

ZX-14 Commanders may be in by next week.

I mentioned changing the front sprocket also and he said, "Why bother? Brock is running a 9.55 with stock gearing." Daaaaammmmnnnn!!!!

Scotchbright will scratch the fuck out of the pipes! Any strong solvent (lacquer thinner, MEK, acetone, etc) and a soft cloth will work, including the gasket remover mentioned above.

Carbon fiber always runs much cooler than any metal pipe(s) will.

I may be wrong but I'm prety sure that almost any pipe you put on there will cause the same issue due to muffler hanger design.

I really would like a quiet system. AKRO, or Leo Vince.
But everyone says the support Brock gives you is golden. What to do.
I am also getting tired of waiting.

All aftermarket pipes should run cooler since they have no cats in them like the stockers do.

My ZZR had the same setup. That is why my wife knew to tell me to change them out. The catalytic convertors get super hot and hold the heat. My aluminum canisters on the ZZR were safe to touch within minutes after shut down and never got hot enough to melt anything.

Research is telling me that most of the aftermarket exhaust systems (not slipons) but full systems are going to be in the 103 to 105 decibel range. Muzzy is quoting 104. Check the bore size and length of the silencer. Bigger bore or shorter overall length will be louder.

If you are willing to sacrifice some performance for less volume slipons will be the way to go. Staintune, Remus and now AreaP are the quietest slipons that I have knowledge of. AreaP is the only one of the three now available for the ZX-14.

I do not know about carbon fiber....

You both are right!
Hanger design is an issue as the pipe is so close to the pegs, problem is much less prevalent tho, as the pipes do not get nearly as hot without cats, and cool down much quicker!

I'm going with Stainless/Ti, wonder about the integrity of carbon fibre with the Heat this thing produces.
Spoke with hindle factory last week, even they say they do NOT recommend Carbon Fibre on this bike.

I've had a carbon fiber can on my ZX12R for 6 years now. Only problem has been the swingarm spool rubbing through the backside from being lowered too far. I've repacked it once with some packing from an damaged Akra Can I had laying around.

Remember also when your riding you have air flowing going over the can taking heat away. As long as you keep it packed well it should be fine. The packing is the key, keep it well packed to keep the hot exhaust gases from actually contacting the inside of the can walls..
