What kind of 2 piece leather riding suit should I get?
need a two piece leather suit for the drags. I'm looking at Joe Rocket GPX, and the Alpinestar Stage, so far. I want it to be fairly comfortable in the Louisiana heat(yea, right. Even naked isn't comfortable here), as I'll be riding about 40 miles too the track, then spending the day drag racing.
And I don't want to spend to much.

Which ever you get, make sure its perforated or your gonna fry! I'm looking at a Vanson textile perf jacket with steet armor. Reasonable price and good protection in addition to keeping cool. (Kind of).

It has to be all leather per the NHRA regulations. I think there's a site somewhere where a guy will perforate any leather for $89 shipped. Don't remember the site off hand, but thought it was very reasonable for poking holes in leather.
The Vanson suit is just too expensive, and custom, like the Bates.

Try newenough.com - they always have some pretty good deals. Like the top end guys, you'd better make sure if stretch panels are legal and if they are make sure they are in legal areas of the leathers too.
I'm partial to my Gericke V-Pilot jacket and pants.

Personally I wouldn't use a 2 piece for any kind of motorcycle sport.
If you really want a 2 piece make sure the zips are sewn to the hide, right around the whole waistline, not sewn to the the lining. That way, if you were unlucky enough to come off, the jacket should not ride up and you'll keep your skin.

Vanson perf
I would recommend the Vanson perforated series. (http://www.vansonleathers.com/product_pages/jackets/veo4_perf_veo2.htm) While expensive, they are very cool and should help in the torrid heat down there. I have to put a fleece under mind at temps below 60 and it is comfortable up to 85/90 after that its all hot air coming at you anyway.
You might want to try it with a cooltech vest along with a camel back for the serious summer weather down you way. My son rides in Texas and swears by that combination.....

I'd recommend AVOIDING the Vanson 2 piece.... it's not a full zip.... if you want to see the consequences of crashing with the Vanson 2 piece, ask Ozzy... if he chimes in he'll tell you all about his rashed up belly. I got rid of my Vanson two piece for that very reason.

1piece, especially for the drags.
Plus more comfortable on the road. Better in the wind, fit, etc.
And especially at high highway speeds.

i'm thinking of getting the Joe Rocket GPX 2 piece suit. Found it for $505. It has vents, and zips all the way around. Anybody got any other suggestions?? Or anybody own one of these suits?

Rickey Gadson wears the J. Rocket leathers...Thats a good price...
1 piece leathers are not practical for the street or DragStrip...You can get the Vanson and have them add a full circumfrence zipper, but it will be alot more $$$ than the J.Rocket GPX you just mentioned!!!

I hate the Bastids because they lie like a bunch of DOGs, BUT I have Vanson because they're the best shit going. Fish you're right they're standard zipper deal sux ass. I purchased a new Vanson suit this year and didn't get the full zipper Looks like another suit is in my future. If I order now it should be ready by Christmas!!!!!!!!or next summer. The Bastids are SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and lie

I know 1 piece lack pockets, are harder to deal with at gas stops, and can't be worn out at night on road trips. But has there ever been a roadracer in a 2 piece? Not.
My 2 piece just aren't practical for me, even on the street, at speeds that cause zippers to come apart. Which is as soon as we leave the house.
This ain't no Harley.
Maybe 2 sets is the answer. I bought a decent set of 1 piece leathers last week w/decent hard armour for 350.00 at Cycle Gear. Cheap insurance. Not to mention the pain of broken bones and skin grafts.
