Installed SpeedoHealer
I installed the SpeedoHealer today. Great product at a good price. $90 from Cal-Sportbike... http://www.calsportbike.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?cart_id=5665746.11597&pid=800&count=1
Installation was very straightforward and easy. I put the unit under the left ram-air cover. After installed, everything tucks away nicely. The only place someone could see any wires at all is at the sensor connection. Even then, someone would have to be looking very, very hard. Here are some pics...

Kewl... how much is the speedo out by...
Does it send a corrected signal to ecu and speedo...?
Find out if the bike is limited by speedo or rpm in 6th, after you correct everything ...please.
I'm dropping to a 16 tooth, and have speedo healer on the way, but will be dissapionted if the bike only pulls the same rpm in 6th...
My thinking was 186 mph is fast enough, as long as the bike is permitted to pull the extra rpm , it will still pull 186 mph, even with lower gearing.

TJ, did you have to pull the side fairing to install the connector? Are the instructions good with the package? Thanks........

I only had to pull the left "fins" panel and the left ram air cover. Everything was very quick and easy

Does it change the signal to the ecu, as well as the speedo?
I want to change the sproket but do not want to lose top end.
Thanks

Can I just run this by you guys before I purchase?
I do top speed runs and in class 1 (box-stock) de-restrictors are the ONLY modification allowed.
I am thinking that If I install a SpeedoHealer and go down a few clicks (ignoring any speedo error) it will give me more headroom before the ECU limiter kicks in. Is this logical?
Thanks.

Thanks TJ, I had read that thread. I thought those guys had it wrong though, talking about measuring resistance. They could be confusing it with the gear position sensor.
The device on the gearbox sprocket is a Hall effect head, it generates tach pulses and the speedo healer is a device which will read those pulses and clock them out at a different rate, plus or minus. Thats as I understand it.
That's the beauty of it. It fits the bill for changes in gearing, converting mph to kmh or vice-versa and keeps speed junkies like me happy too.

But thats a self contained unit right? That is a sensor and read out unit right? It wont plug into the bikes wiring. So it wont correct the speedometer or odometer error after changing sprockets, and going to a smaller sprocket will add more miles than your actually driving..

Speed vs mileage...OK
160000 miles vs 170000 miles (sprocket change)
I would be worried :-)
but anyway speedohealer @ ~100 USD is still cheap
compared to say 200 USD price drop
I think I'm gonna have a speedohealer, too!
(and that xternal Sigma cycle speedo)

I installed the yellow box this weekend, took about 30 minutes, and mounted the box right to the frame, black side out up out of the way in the engine, about 8" from the solder points. Found out I am at roughly a 9% error with a $100 cheapie GPS. Weird, it is not linear, my speedo still reads under the real speed at about 60mph, and over 80+. I could tell prior to installation that the OEM speedo error was not linear but rather quadratic, so I set the 9% based on speeds around 60-70 to make it spot on at those points. Now my speedo and trip meters will start being a little more correct.

More than 9% at 100mph
You were calibrated same as me, what do we do about the non linear function?
Now I'm correct at 60mph, and off 3 mph at 100.
I will check it tomorrow at 150, 175, and see if the limiter is bypassed.

Question for TJ.
The post just arrived with my Speedo Healer. They sent me the Universal harness kit. I can see from the photo's above that you used the Kawasaki harness. Does it plug straight into the loom or did you have to cut the cable and install some new connectors ?

If it doesn't plug in you got the wrong harness.

Correct. Just pulled out the loom and had a proper look. Kawasaki harness on the way.
Thanks.

What is the difference between a Speedo Healer and a Yellow Box? Do they both perform the same function but use different names? Which one is best and which one allows you to obtain a higher top speed? Thanks in advance. Still learning--

It looks like this has already been answered but.... With the Kawasaki I Plug-n-go kit, everything is very easy

They both do the same thing. The Speedohealer is cheaper, plug-and-play, and allows for top speed recall (on the ext model that costs $10 extra).

The yellow box is $99 so the price difference is fairly nominal. I just went with that because I have used them before, and they are very tiny, fit in many places larger units wouldn't. I haven't seen the Speedo Healer, so I cannot comment on that unit. It took about 30 minutes to install, you have to snip one wire and tap into two others, nothing irreversible if need be.

I just got the Speedohealer but haven't gotten out with the GPS yet. What correction factor are you guys using with a 16T front sprocket?

You don't need a GPS, you just need a stopwatch.
Go on the highway, get to a constant speed (actually hard to do with the 14, it wants to decel/accel very easily), then time how long it takes you to go between the survey mile markers, or even better the 1/10 markers (which we have here on US 69 in Indiana).
You need the Y number of seconds it takes you to cover one mile at X mph on your speedo, so if you do 1/10's mile, multiply your time by 10.
%Error = (X - 3600/Y) / X * 100, where
X = indicated speedo speed
Y = # sec. to cover a mile per your stopwatch
So for example, if you find you are covering a 1/10 mile at 5 seconds at an indicated 80 mph, you are taking 50 seconds to physically cover one mile, so your % Error is:
(80 - 3600/50) / 80 * 100 = 10%
Hope this helps. This will get you close, you still will have a little error, but your speedo will be much closer, giving you time to try a cheapie GPS attempt later.
