They don't have one yet. I think I recall people saying that you could use the one for the 12R.

Ryan schnitz's website listed the 14's oil filter as being the same as the on used on the 05' ZX636 & 04' ZX10R is this correct? I have extra filters for my 10 & 6. The 14 will need oil & filter asap.

zx12r filter will work, holds about 50cc less oil but better than running a dirty one.
Otherwise same filter!

According to Kawasaki.com:

'06 ZX-14, 16097-0004
'04-'06 ZX-10R, 16097-0002
'06 ZX636, 16097-0002

Some have said (can't remember who) that both filters are the same, just made by different OEM's. If that's the case, then a KN-204 replacement filter would work on the '14 too.

Purolater Pure-One baby. That's all you need to know.

My guess is PL-14612 but I need to confirm that.

You don't want to run a K&N filter. They are at the bottom of the food chain quality-wise.

If you have ever tried to get a oem filter off of a 10 then you know why. The K&N has a nut on the end you can grab with a socket. Easy to take off, easy to put on and easy to torque down.

Just beware the K&N is made by Hi-Flo which is rated above Fram (same category as OEM) and below top of the line filters like the Pure1.

Yes, the nut welded to the bottom is a helpful feature but as I say "You can put $2K wheels on a Hyundai, but it's still a Hyundai".

Yeah me too, and damn sure use an OEM filter while under warranty. If you have an oil related engine failure, dont think for a minute they wont try to balk with a non OEM installed...

Don't you think Kawasaki specified their filter for a reason??

There is such a thing as too good an oil filter, I work for a well known engine manufacturer and we have seen numerous engine failures caused by 'will-fit' filters. Not because they don't filter but they over filter and won't go the recommended oil change / filter change interval (go into bypass).

I know a lot of guys here would never leave oil in their bike long enough to cause this type of problem, but there are a few by the law of averages that would. Why pay top dollar for something you're going to throw away every 2-3000 miles.

And as for ease of getting off I've never torqued any filter in my life, up till it touches and a quick yank tight, no filter straps wrenches or anything, and I have NEVER had a filter leak yet, and I have changed a few in my time!

The 10R had an actual torque spec. One thing I've done for awhile is safety wiring the oil filter. Put a hose clamp around the filter, torque it down to the spec, then wire to a handy point, usually an exhaust header or somesuch. Never, ever have to worry about the filter. And the hose clamp makes it sooo easy to take off...

I disagree on several points.

1) There is NO such thing as too good of an oil filter IMO. If the manufacturers are reducing media OR allowing larger particulates through OR running higher bypass valve pressures in the OEM filters they are subsidizing poor maintenance at the cost of engine wear.

I can't imagine how many miles I'd have to run a filter to get the bypass to kick-in but that would be one long overdue oil change.

2) A high-end filter such as the Purolater Pure1 beats the shit out of every OEM filter out there on all levels.

3) It's not a question of cost. I care about my motors religiously, I rebuild motors, I run oil analysis to make sure things are working correctly. One oil analysis costs what two OEM filters do. But, if I can spend $5 on a superior filter to the inferior $14 OEM I will. All day long.

ZXLNT - I put a Pure1 PL-14612 on my brand new R1 @ 400 miles. That's how confident I am of the filter and IF I should have a problem and IF Yamaha balks at warranty work I have more than enough hard data to prove to them that the Pure1 exceeds the spec's of the OEM on every level.

Understand this - the OEM is just a "decent" filter. It's not above average.

It's made cheap and your dealers want you to buy it because they have a HUGE profit margin on it.
