Gee, officer, I'm not sure how fast I was going, my radar detector covers my speedometer, so it is hard for me to see my speed.................HaHa!!
I agree a good detector is needed...................80 does feel like fast idle on this bike and the bike is so damn quiet!
Would a Tech mount going into the steering stem cause less obstruction of the speedo and tach?

Just ordered my stem mount from Motorcycle Radar.com. They don't show it listed on the web site but you can call them. Super fast delivery!

It doesn't block the speedo much, only 0 mph to 40 mph... pretty much useless numbers anyway.
You can go with the stem mount, but you'd have to mount the thin soooo high for it to get an electonically unobstructed view over the gauge cluster that you'd be bouncing your helmet into it when you're tucked in. Just ask the guys from vegas that used the stem mount for their video camera... they couldn't get "tucked in" because the camera was in the way. The radar might be able to be angled down a *little* more than the camera, but if it can't "see" over the lcd display, it's signal will be somewhat blocked.
I went with the control mount because I wanted the V1's view to be to the side of the lcd readout, but above the gauges. Where I have it mounted, the V1 has a view that is not blocked by anything metal or electronic.

I love the V1, but on a bike it is kinda big. I used it for a short while on my 10r, but after a while I just kept it in my car. I may mount it on my 14, b/c going the speed limit with this thing is very difficult!

same as zx 10 center mount....ordered mine before bike came in....works great....yes you can see the cockpit....speedo tand tach. get the extra velco strip that they sell for a couple of bucks more ....piece of mind. put a bel 65 on it or a escort 8500 and the cops wont have a chance. unless they see you.I am painting my zx 1400 to look like one of those flying telephone poles that gos 200 mph that you read about in the papers . or painting my self kawasaki green and telling the cops to take me to your leader.ps I am putting my val 1 and my bel rx 65 both on my bike. let the shoot out begin.... will have pics in a.m.I like the bel better but keep the val 1 in the viper for fun. all those arrows are fun to watch when I go past the donut shop with 12 cop cars parked out front.

well in Ontario, just possession of a radrar detector is a fine and seizure of the unit... Lazer detectors are also no good... however.... LIDAR jammers are "under the radar" (soory, had to do it) as far as the law goes... most police services here set up lasar in speed traps, and even though detectors are illegal... lazer jammers aren't (yet).
I am going to do some tests when I finally get my F---in 14 on tuesday with range and detection ability of radar and Laser....
Bottom line, if the cop isn't lazy, and knows the range of a realistic hit with radar/Laser you are screwed... but in Ontario the pursuit legislation for the cops is they can"t chase bikes anyway
So... realistically, radar detectors will only save your ass in some small towns that haven't upgrded to laser (Toronto is almost 90% Lidar now) and since radar detectors (Lidar as well) are illegal.... you need a really covert system, and not to many companies make a decent hidden system yet.

In Finland a detector is also illegal - better hide it in your pocket or something

quote: Laser sucks big-time. If you are lucky they will zap a car up ahead and you might get a return. If the target you, your probably dead meat no matter what. The best defense is just to keep your eyes peeled for the sneaky bastards.
Check out Laser Veil. With the small area on a bike where they can aim the laser combined with Veil it should reduce the effective distance to where you can either spot them or get the warning and slow down before they can get a reading. Only thing; it does give the headlights a somewhat dirty look and does reduce light output (despite what their FAQ says).
