ZX14 Needs A Radar Detecter ??

I never thought I would think of having a radar detecter except back in the
early 90's. But I think I could use one on this bike. Anyone hook one up yet ??
If so what kind and where did you mount it, and how well has it worked for you?

Thanks The Vak

V1, Techmounts control mount, hardwired to left-front marker light so it comes on with ignition.

Then you have an old V1. Just like Bel, every revision is better with falsing. If you have a Bel 65 that's replaced a V1, then I'd bet that your V1 is getting a bit long in the tooth. Not really a fair fight against a Bel unit that's only been out for a short while.

Bel/Escort (same company) lines Radar Roy's pockets with advertising dollars and test units, and somehow they always seem to come up on top of his tests. Hmm... I wonder why?

Look at reviews done by Car & Driver, who generally carries advertising for all of the major brands, and you'll see who the clear winner is and always has been... for many years.

Someones got to come up with a better place to mount a detector on the 14. Just don't ask me where. A tight cockpit layout to be sure. On long trips the detector can go inside the tank bag with a waterproof connection and an external warning display. Lots of the Long Distance riders use that technique.

If you have a VAL 1 get the latest update. Drastically reduces falseing. If you are 100% certain that X-band is not used in your area you can turn that off. Almost all door opener etc. falseing is X-band. Careful though. Small towns with 20 year old radar guns still use X-band.

A radar detector is an essential piece of equipment on the 14. Won't save you from everything, but it sure helps. You would be surprised an how may cops simply cruise with their radar on. Most of the in town traps are just a squad by the side of the road with the radar on. Probably less that 2% of vehicles have detectors so it' easy pickinn's.

Oh, and if you guys haven't seen this, it's worth a look. This is the "Helmet Assisted Radar Detection System". Yes, it's kind of a cheesy name, but the product works great! No wires running to your helmet or ears, no screaming horns blasing, just a tidy little very bright LED that blinks when the detector is sensing something.

I've had one for a few years now and won't go on a ride without it.

I can't argue the comparison because I don't have both, all I can say is that my V1 doesn't false. It would occasionally get set off by other detectors when I had my old model (4-5 years old), but I upgraded in February to the current model (only cost me $40), and it's all quiet again. I've also turned off X-band, so I don't have hear about every automatic door opener that's in use... only the K-band ones.

Good choice!

Someone needs to make a detector to fit inside the mirror. With a H.A.R.D. display you would have forward and rear coverage and stealth to boot!

Oh, I got a surprise the other morning that's really going to piss me off...

I live in a relatively small town just outside of Fort Worth. They have always had K-band radar running all the time, so they were quite easy to locate. Last year they upgraded to all Ka-band units. No problem... got that covered too. They still leave them on all of the time, so I'm still one up on them, right?

NO!

Just the other morning, I spotted one of them standing outside their Tahoe aiming a laser gun in my direction. There were about 8 cars between me and him, and I got an alert on the V1 way before I was close enough for him to be looking at me, but DAMN, I really don't like the idea of having to look out for laser right outside my neighborhood.

Fort Worth has been using laser hot and heavy for several years, but I only had to worry about them while I was commuting to work. Now I've gotta keep my eyes peeled for laser around my little town too... damn life sucks!

Laser sucks big-time. If you are lucky they will zap a car up ahead and you might get a return. If the target you, your probably dead meat no matter what. The best defense is just to keep your eyes peeled for the sneaky bastards.

Check out motorcycleradar.com. I am going to put mine in the center stem, as it is hollow. It looks the same size as the ZX10............

well.. I've been a total slacker in putting our radar shout out online...

we tested all of them...

Bel RX65 is the winner...

one day soon I'll put the write up for all of you... Bel won by a clear margin.
