NHTSA, would not have it listed yet. It just got past down the pipe line yesterday. The zx10 recall is the steering Damper bolt being loose. Kawasaski might want to do some torque audits.

I've been trying to trace a sound in the front of my A1 zx12r, coming from headlight area does any one know if the down sensor is in the same place?

Like someone said it sounds like a ball bearing running around under the headlight.

ZREXER, did tightening the bolt stop your rattle?

I had not noticed a rattle at all on my bike. You guys that are hearing it must have much better hearings than I do! I did put a strip of weather stripping below the sensor. The sensor now rests on the weather stripping, so it is some what dampened now. As I mentioned, one of the bolts was slightly loose and probably would have vibrated loose over time. It only takes 5 minutes to check. No worries now if I might get a sudden loss of power at an inopportune time.

Bently... not that I doubt you, but before we go calling this an official "recall" I need to confirm it with KMC.

I've installed a "Mexican Jumping Bean" in the safety switch. Since the bean is suspended in the air half the time, my unit has dampened in vibration by 50%.

Now, what loose screw are we talking about?

Alrighty... Recall appears to be official... just got off the phone with KMC. Recall is minor, only applies to a small range of VINs and involves torquing the bolts that hold the sensor on.

Total time allotted to dealer for "repair" is 0.3 hours, so go figure as to how complex this is .

As mentioned in this post anyone with some tools could go check their bikes themselves.

Thanks for the headsup Bently.

After looking at the sensor, I used electrical tape to hold it in place. I tried tightening mine up and well...It's pretty tight. I think it's designed that way; rubber bushings on my bike do a pretty good job of keeping the noise down, but the tape should help. Here are the Pictures.

Hey FIsh Antlers, no big deal ,Just remember theres other people who have ties to find things out as well. That's the reason for these boards. And like I said I have no reason to make it up as I own a 14 so not trying to bash it.

bently.. I know that " theres other people who have ties to find things out"

What you need to know that in the 6 years of running this place we have had so many false alarms about recalls and such that regardless of the source, we need to confirm the "rumour" for our readership... that goes for whether the member has 20 posts or 2000 posts...

The "reason" for these boards (like you need to tell me) is to provide ACCURATE information to the membership, not heresay.

Thanks for the heads up on the recall. Glad it's something minor.

The more I look at the Stop Sensor "Set Up" the more I think that it's designed is this way on purpose. I don't know if your bike is like mine but it seems as soon as I take the bike from the kick stand the RPM's reduce to 1200 rpm "Now". Just thinking outside the box, when I have the bike on the center stand the vibration allows the engine bump the RPM until the bike is kicked off the center stand and the vibration is less, telling the FI to reduce the rpms to 1200. Crazy?

mine was tight, but before reading this that buzzing/vibrating noise was the only thing that bothered me about the 14. I put electrical tape around it to dampen the sound, as well as a cut up piece of cloth b/w the bracket and the sensor and the noise is gone!!

My 14 was checked yesterday. The sensor was not only loose, but it had also developed a fracture in the other attackment point. The sensor would have dropped off and killed the engine very soon. Guys, this recall is no BS!!

Even after doing this fix yourself you need take your bike to the dealer so they can report it as being repaired. They also need to make a mark near your VIN# so it can be verified visually.

Mine does that too, infact it drops to 1000, and wants to die out sometimes!

According to my recall notice, I can call an 800 number and notify Kaw USA directly that I have had the recall handled. I haven't done it yet, but expect to.
