Removed snow shovel, and changed oil.

I know, the bracket looks cheesy as hell, but it does the job. I bought two 4" angle brackets for $3.00, and used the two rear existing holes to install.
Removal was very easy. I took out the tool box, and in the process lost one of the bolts, and later a washer, too the nether regions betwen the gas tank and the frame. Gone forever. Anyways, after you remove the tool box, just lift out the ECU, its not bolted, and then remove the 3 bolts.
Unplug the license plate light, and your done.

The oil change was very easy with one exception. I tried 3 different wrenches, but the oil filter is still on the bike. I was careful so as not to damage the existing filter. I will have to take the bike to the dealer to have the fricken oil filter removed!!!

I put 20w50 dinosaur oil in the bike, still doesn't run any cooler, or any hotter.

The front reflectors just screw off, not sure if im gonna remove the brackets just yet, too hot and tired.

So, total time from start to finish for this project?? All fricken day!!!!
Had to run too the auto parts store for different oil filter wrenches, none would work. Had to run to Homely Depot for the brackets, 1 hour in traffic. Spent the better part of an hour searching for the missing bolt and washer, still in the bike somewhere. Oh, I used some good ole black tape to cover the holes under the seat. Don't plan on ever riding in the rain.

Why do you care not to damage the existing oil filter? As long as you take it off the right way and don't strip the mounting bolts, who cares what the old filter looks like when you get it off? Mine was tight as a sumbitch, so I got my filter wrench, got a good firm grip and tore the fucker up twisting it off, but it came off cleanly with no damage to the bike itself. Spun the new filter on (after lubing the seal and putting some oil in to prep the filter) and tightened it half turn past max hand tight. Done. When oil change number two came, it was much easier to get my installed filter off than the factory installed one. 2 oil changes and 1300 miles later I'm loving her more every day.

Of course I left the stock rear fender and all reflectors on. I care about being seen, not looking cool, and every little bit helps. If an under kit is made to keep my stock plate light and bolt on the reflector underneath, I MAY change it out, otherwise I'm riding it just like it is.

I got rid of my reflectors front and back (with usless luggage hooks), but plan to keep the rear fender.Rear fender is not that bad, if you want ot see a real snow shovel, look at an '03 SV 650 or 1000............yikes!!

I will be doing some touring on the '14 and don't really want my luggage on the back of the bike to get even more soaked by road spray. I am hoping that Ventura gets a mounting kit out for the '14. I have the rack and a large expandable bag, just need a new mounting kit. Mounting system is fairly hidden and the rack itself can be removed in about 10 seconds and replaced by a passenger grab rail.
This is what it looks like on the ZX 10

Destroy the first filter, don't even worry about it. You could even drill a hole towards the end, then shove in a screwdriver and twist it off if it's on there that tight.

Come to think of it, I have dented every single filter I have ever removed. I'm extremely careful putting them on, but coming off...there is no reason to care. As long as you don't bash it off with a hammer, you'll be fine.

I had to use some BIG Channelocks to get my original filter off.

As for the rear fender, I took it off and used some 1-1/2"x1-1/2" angle aluminum for the plate bracket, bent apart slightly more than 90-degrees for a bit of a "cant". I then installed 3 LED's to light the plate (the middle one is the hole vacated by the original fender). I kept the luggage hooks. They are far from useless for me as the tail bag I have is monstrous and I use them to strap it down. I couldn't find a good place to attach the front hooks so I cut the loops off the end of some Ancra straps and attached them to the bolts on the back of the passenger peg brackets. I don't leave them on all the time.
